Drip has established itself as a popular email marketing platform designed primarily for ecommerce businesses looking to automate their customer communications. With its focus on revenue-generating workflows and customer journey mapping, Drip helps businesses nurture leads and drive conversions through targeted email campaigns. However, as marketing needs evolve in 2025, several alternatives offer compelling advantages in specific areas where Drip may fall short. Brevo excels with true omnichannel capabilities, offering global SMS functionality that Drip restricts to US users only. AWeber provides more accessible SMS marketing options through third-party integrations. For businesses requiring immediate assistance, GetResponse’s 24/7 live chat support outshines Drip’s email-only support system. Klaviyo leverages advanced AI for marketing optimization with features like automated message drafting that Drip lacks. Meanwhile, ActiveCampaign offers superior dynamic content capabilities for creating highly personalized email campaigns through AI-powered content blocks and sophisticated segmentation. Each alternative presents distinct advantages worth considering depending on your specific marketing requirements.

Best alternatives to Drip

For implementing omnichannel marketing workflows:

Brevo product logo

Brevo

Stackfix Rating:

8.0 / 10

Brevo offers advantages over Drip for implementing omni-channel marketing workflows. Drip restricts SMS campaigns to existing US users, while Brevo provides full SMS campaign functionality globally, enabling multi-channel communication. Brevo’s native omni-channel workflow builder also allows marketers to seamlessly integrate email, SMS, and other channels within the same automation flow – a capability Drip lacks. Finally, Brevo’s AI-powered features, including message drafting and send-time optimization, help marketers deliver more effective cross-channel campaigns, whereas Drip offers no AI assistance for campaign optimization.

For SMS marketing campaigns:

AWeber product logo

AWeber

Stackfix Rating:

3.7 / 10

Marketing teams seeking SMS capabilities should choose AWeber over Drip for three compelling reasons. First, AWeber provides SMS marketing through third-party integrations accessible to all users, while Drip’s SMS feature remains limited to existing US users. Second, AWeber’s SMS integrations work seamlessly with its landing page builder, enabling better conversion tracking across SMS campaigns. Third, AWeber’s live chat support ensures teams get quick assistance with SMS campaign setup and troubleshooting during US business hours, while Drip only offers email support for its constrained SMS feature.

Jump to product

For requiring immediate customer support:

GetResponse product logo

GetResponse

Stackfix Rating:

6.0 / 10

GetResponse offers 24/7 live chat support in English and comprehensive email support in seven languages, making it a strong choice for immediate customer support needs. Unlike Drip’s email-only support system, GetResponse provides robust customer support, ensuring users can get real-time assistance when issues arise. This immediate access to expert help through live chat significantly reduces downtime and helps maintain smooth marketing operations.

For leveraging AI for marketing optimization:

Klaviyo product logo

Klaviyo

Stackfix Rating:

7.3 / 10

Klaviyo differentiates itself from Drip as an AI-powered marketing optimization solution for three key reasons. First, it offers native AI-powered message drafting capabilities, while Drip lacks this functionality. Second, its AI-driven analytics provide industry-specific benchmarking across business, flow, and campaign performance metrics, enabling data-driven optimization of marketing efforts. Finally, it leverages AI to create customer segments and marketing flows automatically, streamlining the optimization process in ways that Drip’s manual segmentation cannot match.

Jump to product

For creating dynamic content for personalized email campaigns:

ActiveCampaign product logo

ActiveCampaign

Stackfix Rating:

7.4 / 10

ActiveCampaign excels at creating dynamic content in personalized email campaigns through three powerful capabilities, while Drip falls short. First, ActiveCampaign offers dynamic content blocks that automatically show or hide email content based on recipient attributes, a feature Drip lacks. Second, ActiveCampaign’s AI-powered automation system creates personalized email series, pre-populating content and suggesting automations based on specific business goals. Finally, ActiveCampaign’s segmentation capabilities are more sophisticated, using AI to automatically generate segments based on user behaviors and engagement levels, providing more advanced targeting compared to Drip’s basic segmentation features.

Functionality
7

Functionality

7/10

<p>While Drip does not have the full suite of marketing automation features, we still really love the wealth of features that they do have within their emails, campaigns, and automations tabs. They're the perfect example of 'do one thing well'.</p>
8

Functionality

8/10

<p>Brevo offers almost all functionality most companies will need. In addition to email campaign automations (e.g. creating flows, lists, and segmentations), Brevo also allows you to:</p><p><br></p><ul><li>Drag and drop to build emails</li><li>Run SMS campaigns</li><li>A/B test cammpaigns.</li></ul><p><br></p><p>However, a few advanced features are missing - such as landing pages (only available to paying users), as well as the ability to send surveys.</p>
4

Functionality

4/10

<p>AWeber offers some, but not all, of the features that a business might need.</p><p><br></p><p>While you can create basic flows and email campaigns with the tool, there are practically no templates for flows, meaning they all have to be built from scratch.</p><p><br></p><p>On top of this, there are no Al-enhanced features, advanced segmentation, or surveys - making this a more meagrely kitted out marketing automation customers</p>
7

Functionality

7/10

<p>Compared to some of its competitors, GetResponse offers an entirely free plan which offers almost all the functionalities a company may need, ranging from email template creation, customer segmentation, and basic analytics tools.</p><p><br></p><p>However, it lacks some granular customisation options for all the above basic tools.</p>
9

Functionality

9/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Klaviyo offers almost all the functionalities that most companies need to execute complex marketing automations. Klaviyo supports an impressive number of integrations, ensuring that your e-commerce, marketing, and analytics apps are covered. It also offers sophisticated AI features, allowing users to create customer segments, marketing flows, and email content with one click.</span></p><p><br></p><p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Smaller teams and beginners struggle at first; the range of features may be overwhelming during onboarding. However they can always stick to the high quality templates provided for flows, emails, and segments.</span></p>
7

Functionality

7/10

<p>While ActiveCampaign has most marketing automation features that a business would need (campaigns, automations, deals, reports, websites, and reports), it lacks on some crucial templating features, including use-case and scenario-based templates (e.g., for conversion, festivals, sales).</p>
Ease of Use
10

Ease of Use

10/10

<p>Drip is one of the most beginner-friendly apps we've tested so far. Each of the tabs is clearly labelled, meaning that even complete beginners to email marketing won't struggle to find their way around the software.</p>
9

Ease of Use

9/10

<p>All key features are extremely easy to locate (email campaigns, templates, automations, and analytics), and there is practically no learning curve. Of all the products we tested, Brevo really shines in its ease of use.</p>
2

Ease of Use

2/10

<p>AWeber was not particularly easy to pick up. Buttons and key calls to action were hidden in a hamburger menu, adding more clicks to get to basic sections of the program. However, given the simplicity of most of the features, this wasn't a huge issue.</p>
6

Ease of Use

6/10

<p>GetResponse was not difficult to pick up for the basic features (e.g., creating emails, websites, landing pages, signup pages, etc). However, it was more difficult to find entry points to the deeper customisation options (e.g., segmentation, A/B testing).</p>
6

Ease of Use

6/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">There's no doubt that Klaviyo can help execute super complex marketing automations - but we don't think it's as beginner-friendly as some of the other tools we tested. Along the same vein, the onboarding process is a bit scant - there's not much by way of tutorials or step-by-step pop-up guidance, most processes are self serve through their help centre. Once you wrap your head around their interface however, the rest is a breeze.</span></p>
8

Ease of Use

8/10

<p>It would take an average small business employee less than an hour or two to properly figure out the functionalities of this software - a great learning curve if you ask us. The layout is also extremely intuitive, making this a beginner-friendly piece of software.</p>
Look and feel
8

Look and feel

8/10

<p>Like many of the marketing automation platforms we've tested, Drip also has a slightly longer loading time for each feature. This isn't a dealbreaker however, as the times are barely noticeable.</p><p><br></p><p>Other than this, Drip's interface is simple and clean.</p>
9

Look and feel

9/10

<p>Brevo is a beautiful piece of software. The drag-and-drop builder has a delightful look and feel, and most pages have blazingly fast load times.</p>
4

Look and feel

4/10

<p>Overall, AWeber's look and feel is outdated and a little tired. For those who don't mind the old-school look, AWeber could be a good fit. However, for those who want a more delightful interface and user experience, some other marketing platforms would be better options.</p>
3

Look and feel

3/10

<p>Of the products we tested, GetResponse was visually less appealing than some of its competitors. The interface is generally a bit tired and old, making it slightly harder to navigate, and a creating a less delightful user experience.</p>
7

Look and feel

7/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Klaviyo's interface is clean, black-and-white, though some of its UX and buttons are not immediately clear nor intuitive. Provided that users pass the initial hurdle of onboarding, the rest is relatively clear!</span></p>
4

Look and feel

4/10

<p>While the interface is generally friendly and easy to pick up (especially the intuitive segmentation between the different key features on the menu bar), the frustratingly slow loading times (more than 2 seconds for email and automation) can be a real deal-breaker.</p>
Customisability
8

Customisability

8/10

<p>There are great customisation options within each of the categories of functions: email writing, automations, segments, and analytics.</p><p><br></p><p>In particular: the drag and drop email builder is easy to use, and the templates are also highly customisable. Conditional segmentation is also supported, helping you focus on the segments that have the highest potential for conversion.</p>
6

Customisability

6/10

<p>Brevo is a 'ready out-of-the-box' kind of software, meaning that most of its features don't require high levels of customisation to begin using.</p><p><br></p><p>The downside is that fewer customisation options are offered compared to its competitors (e.g., cannot create custom analytics dashbaords, fewer options to use own CSS templates).</p>
3

Customisability

3/10

<p>AWeber's email automation and customisation system is one of the weaker ones we tested. While its competitors offer robust customisation options, including templates and conditional logic, AWeber loses out on this regard.</p>
3

Customisability

3/10

<p>GetResponse lacks most of the customisation features that a business would need. Its email drag-and-drop builder is lacking in customisation options (beyond the basic text and photos). Crucially, where there are customisation options, the confusing UI slows you down.</p>
9

Customisability

9/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">One of Klaviyo's core strengths is its high level of customisation, helping you create comprehensive marketing flows even for the most specific consumer segments. Flows can be triggered by specific consumer behaviours, allowing businesses to target specific behaviours to increase stickiness. Segmentation options are equally detailed, allowing filtering based on conditions, behaviour, and even predictive analytics.</span></p>
7

Customisability

7/10

<p>Users can customise a lot of the product (especially around email campaigns and automations). However, ActiveCampaign lacks the ability to make sophisticated custom reports and segmentation conditions.</p>
Ease of Setup
9

Ease of Setup

9/10

<p>We love Drip for its ease of setup. Given that it's so beginner-friendly, you'd find it difficult to draw out your basic setup process to more than 30 minutes. In addition, fully customising (e.g., setting up workflows or integrating with your existing tools) takes at most 1 day, and all the functions are extremely self-explanatory.</p>
9

Ease of Setup

9/10

<p>We love that Brevo comes ready to use, and takes almost no time to fully set up. It has a full wealth of pretty email and automation templates, meaning that hours spent manually mapping workflows, and days spent designing emails are now saved.</p>
2

Ease of Setup

2/10

<p>While AWeber does have a free trial, which allows you to perform basic setup and product testing, we still found that it was missing a large number of onboarding processes (e.g., tutorials). As such, basic setup takes 1+ hour to complete, and fully customising would take quite a few days.</p>
7

Ease of Setup

7/10

<p>Campaign Monitor's basic setup takes less than 30 minutes, but advanced setup, such as advanced workflows or creating segments, takes slightly longer, especially as key features feel slightly hidden within the interface.</p>
6

Ease of Setup

6/10

<p>Given that Klaviyo is such a full-suite marketing platform, a lot of its advanced features are harder to wrap your head around. Basic setup is relatively easy –&nbsp;you can import mailing lists and create basic email workflows within 30 minutes. However, creating advanced workflows or fully integrating it into your software stack may take anywhere between a day to a week, given all of its advanced customisation feautures.</p>
10

Ease of Setup

10/10

<p>ActiveCampaign has truly standout ease of setup –&nbsp;it takes around 10-20 minutes to finish basic setup, and fully customising workflows takes 1-2 days at most.</p><p>What we love especially is how easy its AI capabilities improve the setup times: no more painstakingly trawling through manual workflow setups, since AI fully takes care of populating the correct information!</p>
Customer Support
5

Customer Support

5/10

<p>As a smaller app, Drip does not have the option to use live chat for customer support. However, they do have a responsive email team, as well as a good self serve help centre.</p>
5

Customer Support

5/10

<p>A big drawback for Brevo is their lack of live chat functionality - meaning that if you run into problems, there's no guarantee of how long it'll take before you hear back from their email-only customer support team.</p><p><br></p><p>There is, however, a self-serve support function (i.e., a help centre).</p>
7

Customer Support

7/10

<p>Live chat, email support, and help centre articles are available. Live chat isn't 24/7 however - but they serve US hours. Just something to be aware of if you're based in Europe/anywhere else.</p>
9

Customer Support

9/10

<p>Live chat expert support is available in two languages - chat is available 24/7 in English, and weekdays 9am-5pm in Polish. There's also 24/7 email support available in 7 languages.</p>
6

Customer Support

6/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">There's a helpful AI tool, which provides step-by-step instructions for simple tasks. However, for more complex troubleshooting, users can only rely on their 24/7 email support - less efficient and ideal than the live chat option that its competitors may offer.</span></p>
8

Customer Support

8/10

<p>There are three helpful avenues of support, the most helpful of which is of course the live chat (only available 3am-11pm CT).</p><p><br></p><p>Supplementing this is the support centre and self-serve training materials.</p>
Integratability
8

Integratability

8/10

<p>Drip integrates with most key business software, spanning accounting and analytics to e-commerce and event management. It also covers most of the apps which we've deemed most crucial (e.g., Shopify, Woocommerce, Typeform, etc).</p>
9

Integratability

9/10

<p>Brevo has pre-built integrations with most relevant 3rd party products. If you want to add more integrations, an API is also available where needed.</p>
7

Integratability

7/10

<p>Most integrations that businesses would need are offered by AWeber - including integrations for CRM, e-commece, lead generation, social media, and more.</p>
8

Integratability

8/10

<p>GetResponse integrates with most apps that users might need, including e-commerce, survey, and analytics tools.</p>
9

Integratability

9/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Klaviyo has a complete ecosystem for integrations, which spans categories from advertising to logistics. Common integrations are also carried - e.g., Shopify, Canva, Aftership etc.</span></p>
9

Integratability

9/10

<p>ActiveCampaign supports 950+ integrations, meaning that most of your commonly used apps will likely be covered by the long list of integrations. Key areas, such as e-commerce, analytics etc, are obviously included.</p>
Ease of Migration
10

Ease of Migration

10/10

<p>Drip's data is highly exportable. Unlike some of the other tools we tested –&nbsp;where users are only able to export contacts –&nbsp;Drip also allows users to export analytics, email campaigns, account information.</p><p><br></p><p>The ability to export analytics is truly standout, not least because most marketing teams will be able to analyse the data elsewhere (e.g., in Excel), without being bound to the Drip dashboards.</p>
6

Ease of Migration

6/10

<p>Contacts are exportable directly off of the Brevo platform, but for other types of exports (e.g., exporting analytics) we had to contact the customer support team.</p>
7

Ease of Migration

7/10

<p>As with most marketing automation platforms, AWeber allows you to export your subscriber list. Anything else requires either an API or contacting customer support.</p>
7

Ease of Migration

7/10

<p>GetResponse has a self-service function to export contacts. However, there aren't many other options for exporting analytics or other elements.</p>
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Easy to export lists or segments into a CSV file. There's also a comprehensive list of available APIs for exporting.</span></p>
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p>As with most marketing automation platforms, contacts can be exported easily directly through the app.</p>

How we test products

With so many Marketing Automation platforms available, we focus on identifying the best options for small and midsize businesses. Our evaluation process reflects real-world usage, prioritizing functionality, ease of use, and overall value. Here’s how we do it:

Functionality

Marketing Automation software should help businesses streamline campaigns, nurture leads, and drive conversions. We start by identifying key use cases—email automation, lead scoring, campaign management, and analytics—then test how well each platform supports these needs. Tools that provide essential features without unnecessary complexity score highest.

User Experience & Onboarding

A great Marketing Automation platform should be intuitive enough for teams to adopt quickly. We test each platform’s interface by navigating core features without prior training and track onboarding time—from account setup to launching a first campaign. Platforms that require extensive setup or technical expertise lose points.

Automation & AI Capabilities

Automation is at the core of marketing success. We evaluate each platform’s automation features, including workflows, segmentation, AI-driven personalization, and predictive analytics. Tools that enhance efficiency without adding unnecessary complexity score highest.

Integrations & Compatibility

Marketing Automation platforms need to connect seamlessly with CRMs, email providers, ad platforms, and customer data tools. We test how well each product integrates with essential business systems and assess whether native integrations or third-party connectors are required.

Pricing & Value

We compare pricing across competitors, analyzing what each plan includes and whether critical features are locked behind paywalls. Hidden costs—such as per-contact fees, premium automation features, or required onboarding services—are factored into our assessment. Platforms that offer strong core functionality at a fair price score highest.

Stackfix’s Fit Score

All of these factors contribute to Stackfix’s Fit Score, a proprietary ranking system that measures how well each Marketing Automation tool aligns with a buyer’s needs. It combines two key elements:

  • Requirements Met – How many buyer requirements the software fulfills
  • Stackfix Rating – Our expert assessment of the software’s overall quality, usability, and value

The result? A clear, data-driven recommendation that helps businesses choose the right Marketing Automation software—without hours of trial and error.

FAQs

What is a Marketing Automation Platform?

A marketing automation platform is a tool that helps businesses automate and optimize their marketing campaigns across email, SMS, and other channels. It’s essentially a centralized system that streamlines customer engagement, lead nurturing, and performance tracking—allowing you to scale your marketing efforts efficiently. The key features of a marketing automation platform usually include:

  • Email & SMS Automation: Helping you send personalized, behavior-triggered messages at scale, whether it’s a welcome series, abandoned cart reminder, or post-purchase follow-up.
  • Audience Segmentation: Allowing you to create targeted campaigns based on customer behavior, purchase history, demographics, and other data points.
  • Campaign Analytics & Reporting: Providing insights into email performance, conversion rates, and customer engagement, so you can refine your marketing strategy.

What should I consider when buying a Marketing Automation Platform?

The right marketing automation software can supercharge your campaigns, streamline workflows, and drive better results—but choosing the best fit depends on your business needs, tech stack, and budget. Here are the key factors to consider before making your decision.

  1. Your marketing needs. Start by defining your key use cases. Are you primarily focused on email marketing? Do you need SMS automation? Are you looking for an all-in-one platform that includes landing pages and forms? Choosing a tool that aligns with your strategy will save you time and money in the long run.
  2. Ease of use. A powerful platform is useless if it’s too complicated for your team to navigate. Look for a clean, intuitive interface that enables quick setup and execution. That’s why Stackfix gives every marketing automation platform an ‘Ease of Use’ rating—so you can quickly find the most user-friendly tools. Click into each product above to see how they compare.
  3. Integration with your tech stack. Does the platform work seamlessly with your CRM, e-commerce system, or customer support software? If you rely on specific tools, make sure the platform offers native integrations rather than requiring third-party connectors.
  4. Pricing & scalability. Don’t just focus on the monthly subscription fee—consider hidden costs like automation limits, per-contact pricing, or required add-ons for essential features. Also, think ahead: will the platform still fit your needs as your business grows?
  5. Customer support. Marketing automation is mission-critical—so what happens if something breaks? Check for 24/7 support availability, response times, and self-serve resources like help centers and community forums. To help you compare, Stackfix rates every platform on customer support—click into each product above to see the details.

What are the common mistakes to avoid when buying Marketing Automation software?

Choosing the wrong marketing automation software can lead to wasted budget, poor adoption, and underwhelming results. Avoid these common mistakes to save time, money, and frustration—and ensure your marketing efforts are set up for success. Here are some of the biggest mistakes startups make—and how to avoid them.

  1. Your marketing needs. Start by defining your key use cases. Are you primarily focused on email marketing? Do you need SMS automation? How much does Marketing Automation Software typically cost?
