In today's competitive talent market, having the right recruitment software can make all the difference in attracting and securing top candidates. This hiring tool offers organizations a platform to manage their recruitment processes, but how does it stack up against specialized alternatives? While the tool provides basic applicant tracking functionality, several competitors offer more robust solutions for specific recruitment challenges. Greenhouse Recruiting excels at high-volume hiring with extensive automation and job board integrations, while Personio delivers comprehensive analytics that the tool lacks. Rippling HR Cloud stands out with seamless HRIS integration capabilities, Breezy HR offers superior workflow automation, and Workable provides unmatched multi-job board integration. This comparison explores how these alternatives outperform the tool in key areas, helping recruitment teams identify the solution that best addresses their specific hiring challenges in 2025.

Best alternatives to Hiring tool

For managing high-volume hiring processes:

Greenhouse Recruiting product logo

Greenhouse Recruiting

Stackfix Rating:

6.0 / 10

Greenhouse Recruiting manages high-volume hiring processes well through three key capabilities. First, its workflow automation enables automatic actions like sending self-scheduling links and assessment tests when candidates move between stages. Second, its extensive job board integration network allows posting to over 1,000 job boards, efficiently attracting large candidate pools. Third, its robust reporting and analytics capabilities help teams track metrics like conversion rates and time-in-stage across departments, essential for optimizing high-volume recruitment funnels. Hiring tool offers basic ATS functionality, but lacks the automation, integration depth, and analytical capabilities needed to handle high-volume hiring efficiently.

Personio

Stackfix Rating:

5.2 / 10

: Personio’s comprehensive recruitment analytics make it a stronger choice than Hiring tool for companies requiring detailed hiring insights. Personio also enables data-driven decision making through features like candidate volume tracking, offer acceptance rate monitoring, and the ability to filter analytics by department and demographics. For Businesses needing HRIS integration:

Rippling HR Cloud product logo

Rippling HR Cloud

Stackfix Rating:

6.1 / 10

Rippling HR Cloud’s native HRIS integration delivers three advantages over Hiring tool for businesses needing HRIS integration. First, Rippling’s native HRIS enables seamless data synchronization between recruiting and HR systems, automatically transferring new hire information without manual re-entry. Second, its workflow automation capabilities allow teams to create custom cross-module workflows that streamline the hiring-to-onboarding process. Third, Rippling provides comprehensive analytics and reporting tools that give real-time visibility into both recruiting metrics and workforce data in a unified dashboard.

For companies requiring workflow automation:

Breezy product logo

Breezy

Stackfix Rating:

6.7 / 10

Breezy’s workflow automation capabilities make it a compelling alternative to Hiring tool for companies requiring workflow automation. Breezy’s “stage actions” feature automatically triggers customized email sequences, questionnaires, and feedback requests when candidates move between pipeline stages. While Hiring tool offers no automation for acceptance, rejection, or confirmation emails, Breezy enables hiring teams to automate candidate communications with customizable templates and delayed sending options. The automation extends beyond just emails – Breezy can automatically initiate background checks, schedule interviews, and collect team feedback as candidates progress, creating a seamless end-to-end hiring workflow that saves significant manual effort.

For Organizations needing multi-job board integration:

Workable product logo

Workable

Stackfix Rating:

7.1 / 10

Workable’s extensive job board integration capabilities make it a powerful choice for organizations needing multi-job board integration. With direct connections to 133 job boards, including major platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed, Workable enables recruiters to post and manage job listings across multiple channels without leaving the platform. Functionality
4

Functionality

4/10

<p>Hiring tool offers little ATS functionality. It lacks basic integration features with external job boards (e.g. LinkedIn), E-sign contract software or external assessment software (e.g. Test Gorilla). Hiring tool's ATS functions are also minimal. It lacks CV parsing, analytics/reporting and email automation functionality.</p><p>This being said, the email integration (via Gmail and Microsoft Outlook) allows businesses to send emails to candidates efficiently, without leaving the Hiring tool website.</p><p>Hiring tool's AI candidate scoring function also provides some time-saving benefits to employers with too many application forms to review manually. However, this is not the kind of employer that the rest of the Hiring tool product is aimed at.</p>
9

Functionality

9/10

<p>Greenhouse is a legacy, heavyweight ATS that offers all functionality that most companies, including enterprises will need.</p><p>The only features missing are the more delightful touches for candidate experience (e.g. allowing candidates to upload a video on their application form) or granular reporting functionality offered by newer ATS, such as Teamtailor and Ashby.</p>
6

Functionality

6/10

<p>Personio offers some functionality most SMBs will need for hiring, including creating interview pipelines, creating job ads, interview kits &amp; scorecards, candidate self-scheduling, a Chrome extension for sourcing candidates.</p><p>However, it lacks some key functionality, such as asking pre-screening questions.</p>
6

Functionality

6/10

<p>Rippling's ATS can only used as an add-on to its HRIS. Together, they provides seamless sync between people and recruiting data, enabling real-time visibility into open and filled positions. The platform allows for management of headcount plans and compensation bands, and offers advanced analytics capabilities.</p><p>However, its ATS alone lacks some features key for handling high hiring volumes, such as a CV parser and candidate self-scheduling for interviews.&nbsp;</p>
7

Functionality

7/10

<p>Breezy has a strong level of functionality offering a CV parser, pre-screening questions, data analytics/reporting, interview scheduling, scorecards and reusable interview pipelines.</p><p><br></p><p>It lacks a few useful time-saving integrations that its more heavyweight ATS competitors have. Most notable of these is a chrome extension allowing users to import candidate profiles directly from linkedIn and other job boards. Breezy requires candidates from external job boards to be added manually.</p>
7

Functionality

7/10

<p>Workable offers most features required for low-volume hiring, including creating job openings, posting to job boards, tracking candidates, and setting up interview processes.</p><p>It also has some additional useful features such as an integrated HRIS and native video interviews &amp; assessments. However, for high-volume hiring, its automation, reporting, and career site/job posting features are notably weaker than competitors.&nbsp;</p>
Ease of Use
10

Ease of Use

10/10

<p>Its simplicity and intuitive architecture removes the need for a steep learning curve and instead creates a seamless UX. <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent;">An average SMB employee would require more than 30 minutes and no guidance to master the product.</span></p>
3

Ease of Use

3/10

<p>Users we've interviewed (and ourselves) find Greenhouse very complex, and difficult to locate key information. There are too many buttons to click to do something, so everything takes longer than it needs to.</p><p>Teams need to invest significant upfront time for training to fully utilize Greenhouse.&nbsp;</p>
4

Ease of Use

4/10

<p>We find Personio's UX is subpar, with unintuitive navigation for key information like candidate applications and confusing workflows.</p><p>The process for customizing pipelines and application forms is unnecessarily complex, requiring navigation through multiple settings tabs.</p>
7

Ease of Use

7/10

<p>Rippling's ATS is generally user-friendly and straightforward to navigate. However, there is a learning curve for reporting and building automation workflows, especially across HR+ATS modules.</p>
6

Ease of Use

6/10

<p>Breezy is easy to use once you know where to find all the relevant customisations and functionality. These feature, however, are often buried in a settings menu which can be overwhelmingly long.</p><p>That being said, once you have gained familiarity with the location of different features, these features are very intuitive to use.</p><p><br></p><p>In our experience, the average SMB employee would require one day to master all functionalities of the product.</p><p>This number would likley be higher, but the very informative 'how to' videos and other self-serve documents speed up the process greatly.</p>
8

Ease of Use

8/10

<p>Workable is straightforward and easy to use. The learning curve is gentle. An average SMB employee should be able to master key functionalities within 30 minutes with minimal guidance. However, some workflows are slightly less intuitive than competitors, such as setting up automations in a separate "Settings" section rather than within the hiring workflow.&nbsp;</p>
Look and feel
7

Look and feel

7/10

<p>Hiring tool has a modern and sleek feel. Fast loading times produce a seamless UX. All drag and drop features work well and sync quickly across users.</p><p>At times, however, Hiring tool's UI can look plain, simplistic and unfinished.</p>
5

Look and feel

5/10

<p>We find Greenhouse visually acceptable but looks a bit tired/ dated both in its internal and external facing elements.</p>
5

Look and feel

5/10

<p>While Personio has a clean and simple interface that is visually acceptable, it suffers from slow loading times (3-4 seconds per page).</p>
6

Look and feel

6/10

<p>Rippling is visually acceptable, but we find that the layout can be a bit overwhelming at times. Page load times are acceptable.&nbsp;</p>
5

Look and feel

5/10

<p>Certain features of Breezy have a somewhat dated look. The Kanban dashboard new is sufficiently sleek, however the side bar - where many of the functionalities are found - has a tired look to it.</p><p><br></p><p>Loading times are not exceptionally fast either - but acceptable. Changing between dashboards can often take 2 seconds which can become frustrating.</p>
6

Look and feel

6/10

<p>Workable's interface is visually acceptable but pages take 2 seconds to load, which is slower than some competitors.&nbsp;</p>
Customisability
6

Customisability

6/10

<p>Hiring tool lacks the more granular customisations available with its heavyweight ATS counterparts. For example, you can't add interview templates, delay emails to candidates or add a video introduction to job application forms. However, most standard customisations are available. For example, you can add team members to help hire for a specific role and you can customise application forms (e.g. with screening questions) and interview pipelines.</p>
8

Customisability

8/10

<p>Greenhouse offers high customizability. Users can customize fields, dashboards, alerts, scorecards, and even use custom CSS for external elements.&nbsp;</p>
5

Customisability

5/10

<p>Personio allows you to make standard adjustments to your interview pipelines, interview kits and career pages. However, users are unable to build custom reports, and customisability on application forms are limited e.g. you cannot add a pre-screening question.</p>
6

Customisability

6/10

<p>Rippling offers less customisation than specialised ATS's. For example, you can't schedule buffer times between interviews, or enable file upload on job application forms.</p><p>However, it provides standard levels of customisability for other aspects like creating career pages and interview pipelines.&nbsp;</p>
8

Customisability

8/10

<p>Breezy boasts a high level of customisation. Career pages can have customised by appearance, messaging (including language) capabilities, displaying social media, listing perks, displaying testimonials, general media and layout. Custom CSS/JavaScript can also be added.</p><p><br></p><p>Similarly, interview pipelines can be customised per position. They can be saved under a particular name or job title and reused again. As many stages as required can be added or removed to new or existing pipelines.</p><p><br></p><p>Usefully, new team members can be added to teams or an entirely new teams can be created to oversee a particular job position.</p>
6

Customisability

6/10

<p>Workable gives you the usual customization options—like adding custom data fields, tweaking interview pipeline stages, and building your own reports.</p><p>That said, its flexibility has limits when it comes to career pages, candidate scorecards, and application forms. For example, on scorecards, you’re stuck with just three predefined scoring options: “Definitely,” “Yes,” or “No.”</p>
Ease of Setup
10

Ease of Setup

10/10

<p>Hiring tool offers a free plan that doesn't require you to talk to sales. Purchasing also doesn't require you to talk to sales. Hiring tool's simplicity and intuitive user interface allows users to complete basic setup &lt;10mins. Fully customizing key features is also very simple and takes approximately 1 business day.</p>
4

Ease of Setup

4/10

<p>Greenhouse does not offer a free trial and purchasing requires you to talk to sales. Due to Greenhouse's unintuitive user interface, it takes 30-60 mins to complete basic setup. Fully customizing key features takes approximately a week.</p>
6

Ease of Setup

6/10

<p>Personio offers a free trial, however, purchasing requires you to talk to sales. It takes 30-60mins to complete basic setup due to the platform having an unintuitive UI. Fully customizing the platform takes &lt;1week.</p>
5

Ease of Setup

5/10

<p>Rippling doesn't offer a free trial and requires you to speak to sales before making a purchase. The ATS is user-friendly making basic setup relatively simple compared to other ATSs; &lt;30mins to complete. Some key features have a learning curve, therefore, fully customizing takes &lt;1week.</p>
7

Ease of Setup

7/10

<p>Breezy offers a free trial that doesn't require speaking to sales. Purchasing after the free trial also doesn't require speaking to sales. it takes &lt;30mins to complete basic setup (posting first job opening, adding hiring team members, configuring basic hiring stages). Fully customizing key features takes &lt;1week.</p>
7

Ease of Setup

7/10

<p>Workable offers a free trial without needing to speak to sales first, however, you do need to speak to sales before making a purchase. It takes &lt;30mins to complete basic setup (posting first job opening, adding hiring team members, configuring basic hiring stages). Workable being straightforward and easy to use makes fully customizing key features very intuitive, taking approximately 1 business day.</p>
Customer Support
10

Customer Support

10/10

<p>Hiring Tool's founder mans live chat support himself, guaranteeing almost instant and helpful responses. The founder is also very hands-on, and happy to go above and beyond to work together to find a solution to any problem, including quickly developing custom features for teams. </p><p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Hiring tool's self-service materials are not extensive, but given the intuitive nature of the UI, more self-service materials would not be necessary.</span></p>
6

Customer Support

6/10

<p>While we haven't been able to test this ourselves, users we've interviewed report that it takes longer for the support team to respond compared to competitors such as Lever and Workable.</p>
5

Customer Support

5/10

<p>You can reach Personio's support team via web tickets and callbacks in-app during UK/ Germany business hours. Unlike most HRIS's, live chat doesn't seem available as an option. Users we've interviewed have complained about Personio ignoring requests, especially for English channels.</p>
5

Customer Support

5/10

<p>Rippling's customer support seem somewhat inconsistent. We found it frustrating to deal with Rippling's AI chatbot in order to live chat with a human agent. Users we've interviewed also report having salesy account managers.</p><p>On the flip side, we've also had positive reviews of Rippling's support team being very hands-on and willing to help,</p>
8

Customer Support

8/10

<p>Breezy has excellent self-services materials under their 'ATS help centre' to help you with any functional queries you may have. These span 6 categories, with up 47 articles in each category. They include how-to's on all functionality that Breezy offers so rest assured that if you are unable to find a feature, Breezy's help centre will almost always be able to help you. The amount of self-serve materials can make it difficult to know where to look for advice, but they do follow an intuitive structure and flow such that in our experience it does not take too long.</p><p><br></p><p>Breezy offers both email and live chat when communicating with customer support. Replies are fast, friendly and personalised. It usually takes &lt;1 hour to receive a reply and the Breezy team are always willing to work to find solutions.</p>
7

Customer Support

7/10

<p>Workable provides in-app live chat with human agents. However, when tested, agents weren't particularly helpful/ knowledgeable.</p><p>On the positive side, we find their help centre to be of high quality.&nbsp;</p>
Integratability
1

Integratability

1/10

<p>Hiring tool has no integration aside from email functionality (via Gmail and Microsoft Outlook) and background checks (via Zinc Work).</p><p>The lack of job board integration makes it difficult to advertise positions and costs employers time - should they wish to manually upload adverts to job boards.</p>
10

Integratability

10/10

<p>With 450 pre-built integrations with third-party tools and an open API, Greenhouse definitely has one of the richest integration ecosystem out of ATS's we've come across. It integrates with most HRIS's, screening and collaboration tools.</p>
6

Integratability

6/10

<p>Personio offers 150+ pre-built integrations with most relevant products across most categories. However, it is missing key integrations with popular assessment tools (e.g. Test Gorilla) and video interview tools (e.g. Hirevue). It also offers an API for custom integrations.</p>
7

Integratability

7/10

<p>Rippling has a rich integrations ecosystem with 500+ pre-built integrations, which includes 8 free job boards and 25k premium job boards. However, it crucially lacks integrations with candidate assessment tools and video interview tools.&nbsp;</p><p>It does offer an API for custom integrations.</p>
8

Integratability

8/10

<p>Breezy has strong pre-built integrations for most functions that a hiring team will need. These include candidate assessments (e.g. Test Gorilla), background checks (e.g. Chekr), HRISs (e.g. Bamboo HR) and external job boards (e.g. LinkedIn and Indeed).</p><p><br></p><p>Breezy also has open API should your business want to add any custom integrations.</p>
8

Integratability

8/10

<p>Workable offers 143 integrations with most relevant 3rd party tools across background checks, assessments, SSO, HRIS, etc. It also connects to 20 free job boards and 107 premium job boards, and has an API for custom integrations.</p>
Ease of Migration
2

Ease of Migration

2/10

<p>Hiring tool produces no self-serve analytics. However, with the Enterprise plan (custom pricing &gt; $150), a personalised interface displaying metrics of your choosing can be developed with the Hiring tool team.</p>
6

Ease of Migration

6/10

<p>We've found the reporting module of Greenhouse lacks flexibility and is not user-friendly. Exporting crucial candidate information, such as DE&amp;I attributes, poses a challenge. Changes made to interview stages during the hiring process can also complicate data exports.</p>
7

Ease of Migration

7/10

<p>Bamboo allows users to export key data data via self-serve. Export of most other data are also available via API or on request .However, users have reported difficulty while exporting data from reports.&nbsp;</p>
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p>Rippling allows users to export key data data via self-serve. Export of most other data are also available via API or on request.</p>
7

Ease of Migration

7/10

<p>On a paid tier (star-up, x or business) you can bulk export key candidate data into a CVS file. This includes: name, email, phone number, resume, address, source of application, date added and last activity (last stage completed).</p><p>A <strong>separate </strong>export of questionnaire responses can also be done into a CSV file.</p><p><br></p><p>However, non-candidate-specific data analytics (time to hire, time to fill, acceptance rates etc), despite being reported and visually displayed in a dashboard, cannot be exported.</p>
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p>Exports of key data (candidate, job, employee data) are available via self-serve download to CSV. Most other data are available via API are on request.&nbsp;</p>

How we test products

With so many Recruiting software options available, we focus on identifying the best solutions for small and midsize businesses. Our evaluation process reflects real-world usage, prioritizing functionality, ease of use, and overall value. Here’s how we do it:

Functionality

Recruiting software should streamline hiring workflows, improve candidate sourcing, and enhance the overall hiring process. We start by identifying key use cases—job posting, applicant tracking, interview scheduling, candidate communication, and analytics—then test how well each platform supports these needs. Tools that offer essential features without unnecessary complexity score highest.

User Experience & Onboarding

A great Recruiting tool should be intuitive for hiring managers and recruiters. We test each platform’s interface by navigating core features without prior training and track onboarding time—from account setup to managing the first job listing. Platforms that require complex setup or manual adjustments lose points.

Automation & AI Capabilities

Hiring teams need automation to manage high applicant volumes efficiently. We evaluate each platform’s automation features, such as resume screening, interview scheduling, and AI-driven candidate matching. Tools that enhance efficiency without adding unnecessary complexity score highest.

Integrations & Compatibility

Recruiting software must integrate smoothly with HR platforms, job boards, and communication tools. We test how well each product connects with essential business systems and assess whether native integrations or third-party connectors are required.

Pricing & Value

We compare pricing across competitors, analyzing what each plan includes and whether critical features are locked behind paywalls. Hidden costs—such as per-job posting fees, add-ons for AI-powered features, or required enterprise plans—are factored into our assessment. Platforms that offer strong core functionality at a fair price score highest.

Stackfix’s Fit Score

All of these factors contribute to Stackfix’s Fit Score, a proprietary ranking system that measures how well each Recruiting tool aligns with a buyer’s needs. It combines two key elements:

  • Requirements Met – How many buyer requirements the software fulfills
  • Stackfix Rating – Our expert assessment of the software’s overall quality, usability, and value

The result? A clear, data-driven recommendation that helps businesses choose the right Recruiting software—without hours of trial and error.

FAQs

What is Recruiting software?

Put simply, Recruiting software (also known as an Applicant Tracking System, or ATS) is a platform that helps businesses manage, track, and streamline the hiring process efficiently. It acts as a central hub for all recruiting activities, allowing teams to post jobs, source candidates, manage interviews, and track hiring progress—ensuring a seamless and organized hiring experience. The key features of recruiting software usually include:

  • Job Posting & Distribution: Tools to create job listings and automatically distribute them to multiple job boards and career pages.
  • Candidate Management: A structured system to track applicants throughout the hiring process, from initial application to final offer.
  • Resume Parsing & Screening: AI-powered tools that scan and categorize resumes to help recruiters quickly identify top candidates.
  • Interview Scheduling & Collaboration: Automated interview scheduling, integrated calendars, and shared feedback tools to keep hiring teams aligned.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Insights into hiring speed, candidate quality, and source effectiveness to optimize recruitment efforts.

What should I consider when buying Recruiting software?

Choosing the right recruiting software can make or break your hiring process—so it’s essential to find one that fits your hiring needs, integrates with your existing tools, and aligns with your budget. Here are the key factors to consider before making your decision.

  1. Your Hiring Needs. Start by assessing your current and future hiring requirements. Do you need simple recruiting software for occasional hires, or are you scaling rapidly and require automation, multi-channel sourcing, and advanced analytics? Identifying your priorities will help you choose the right tool.
  2. Ease of Use. Recruiting software should make recruiting faster and more efficient—not more complicated. Look for an intuitive interface that recruiters and hiring managers can use with minimal training. Overly complex platforms can slow down hiring and frustrate your team. That’s why Stackfix rates every recruiting software on ease of use—click into each product above to see how they compare.
  3. Integration with Your Tech Stack. Your recruiting software needs to work seamlessly with your HR software, email, video conferencing tools, and calendar apps. If you use Slack, Zoom, or an HRIS for onboarding, check if the ATS offers native integrations or requires third-party connectors.
  4. Scalability & Flexibility. As your business grows, your hiring needs will evolve. Ensure that the recruiting software can scale with your team, supporting multiple recruiters, departments, and hiring workflows. Look for features like customizable hiring pipelines, automation for repetitive tasks, and integrations with external recruiting agencies.
  5. Pricing & Hidden Costs. Recruiting software pricing varies widely, often based on per-user fees, job postings, or advanced automation add-ons. What seems affordable now could become expensive as your hiring volume increases. Check for extra costs related to resume parsing, advanced reporting, and integrations with premium job boards.
  6. Customer Support from the Vendor. Hiring is time-sensitive, so reliable customer support is essential. If something breaks or you need help setting up workflows, will the vendor be there? Look at response times, support availability (24/7 or business hours?), and self-service resources like help centers or community forums. What are the common mistakes to avoid when buying Recruiting software?

Avoiding common pitfalls when choosing Recruiting software can save you time, money, and hiring headaches down the line. Here are some of the biggest mistakes startups make—and how to avoid them.

  1. Choosing based on features, not usability. Some recruiting platforms have powerful features but a steep learning curve. Make sure you’re picking a tool that fits your team’s workflow, not just one with a long feature list.
  2. Ignoring automation. Many startups still manage recruitment manually when automation could significantly reduce workload. Look for tools that automate job postings, candidate communications, and interview scheduling.
  3. Overlooking collaboration features. Hiring is a team effort, and a lack of collaborative tools (like shared candidate feedback, scorecards, or hiring pipelines) can slow down decision-making.
  4. Not planning for scaling. Startups often pick recruiting software based on current needs, without considering future growth. Will the platform support multiple job openings, hiring managers, and applicant sources as you scale?
  5. Underestimating integration depth. A platform might claim to integrate with your HR software or email system, but does it sync real-time data properly? Always test integrations before committing to a tool.
