What if you could have an HRIS platform that doesn’t try to do it all, but absolutely nails the essentials?

That’s the essence of Humaans, founded in 2020.

Instead of cramming in every possible feature, Humaans focuses on acing the fundamentals: keeping all your employee data in one place, tracking absences and streamlining onboarding.

As for other HR functionality like Applicant Tracking, Performance Management and Benefits? Humaans's strategy is to allow you to add these on via excellent integrations with the best products built by other companies (think using Ashby as your ATS, Lattice for Performance Management and Ben for Benefits). In this way, Humaans wants to be the platform upon which the rest of your HR stack sits.

To see if Humaans is more than just a pretty (inter)face, we put Humaans to a rigorous three-month testing process. Here's our take.

Stackfix's Verdict

Strengths
  • Superior core HR functionality (other functionality provided via excellent integrations)
  • Intuitive and modern UX
  • Comprehensive reporting
  • Excellent time off management for distributed teams
Weaknesses
  • May increase the overall cost of building your HR Tech Stack
  • Gets expensive
  • Missing some advanced features
Best for
  • Small and medium-sized teams (1 to 1000 people), particularly those which are growing fast
  • Who want strong core HR functionality (store employee data, absence tracking etc), and excellent integrations with 3rd party specialist tools (e.g. Applicant Tracking or Performance Management software)

Less good for
  • Larger teams (1000+ people)
  • And/or teams seeking an all-in-one consolidated HR platform

What does

Humaans

 do?

Humaans is a Human Resources Information System (HRIS).

HRIS’s store, manage and track employee-related data, in addition to streamlining core HR processes. With Humaans, and most HRIS, you’ll find key features like:

  • Storing employee information and documents
  • Tracking employee absences
  • Creating onboarding and offboarding workflows

Strengths

Superior Core HR Functionality & Excellent Integrations

Humaans is designed to be the base of your HR tech stack. It acts as a single source of truth for your employee data, on top of which you can integrate best-in-class tools for your other needs.

An example of how you could assemble your HR tech stack as you scale with Humaans’s pre-built integrations

Compared to all-in-one suites, which can feel overwhelming, our team like this lego-like modularity which lets you cherry-pick specialised tools perfectly suited to each growth stage.

Intuitive and Modern UX

Of the HRIS platforms we’ve tested, Humaans really stood out for its visually appealing interface and user friendliness.

Design-wise, Humaans has a refreshingly uncluttered and modern design - a refreshing change from the clunky legacy systems common in this space.

And every user we interviewed confirmed our finding that Humaans is extremely easy to use - with an intuitive interface that makes even more sophisticated tasks (e.g. report building) straightforward.

Humaans’ interface is as sleek as a top-tier consumer website/ app, making it a delight to use.

The “People” view, in particular, is simply *chef’s kiss* - While most HRIS will show you basic work info, Humaans will also give you an overview of everyone’s local time and any upcoming birthdays/ events.

Booking time off is as quick and easy as a few taps on your smartphone (on average, it takes just 9.76 seconds - seriously, we timed it)

Comprehensive Reporting

Creating reports in Humaans is almost too easy.

Our team was pleasantly surprised by how granular the reporting controls were, which allowed us to slice and dice employee data in any way we wanted. Alternatively, you can view a number of handy, pre-made reports via the “Insights” Dashboard tracking headcount fluctuations, time-off, salary trends etc.

Say you're planning a team getaway - you can whip up a report with "Personal Phone", "Dietary Preferences", and "Emergency Contacts", data fields that not many HRIS’s track.

Excellent Time Off Management for Distributed Teams

As remote and hybrid work setups quickly become the norm, Humaans's time off tracking is a standout feature.

We love how Humaans integrates with 300+ national calendars, saving you the hassle of managing public holidays for an international team. The bird's-eye calendar view is another great touch - it gives everyone in the company an instant overview of who's in and who's out.

You can view national public holidays and who’s away at a glance.

Humaans automatically tracks Public Holidays depending on where your team members are located.

Weaknesses

May Increase the Overall Cost of Building your HR Tech Stack

While we dig Humaans’s modularity, building your ideal HR tech stack does take time, effort and - you guessed it - deep pockets. For the same price point, some all-in-one suites will also give you performance management, payroll and engagement functionality; which means they'll offer you both more bang for your buck AND save you the potential headache of sourcing and integrating new tools. For some, a combined solution might just hit the sweet spot.

Gets Expensive and Pricing is Untransparent
Another limitation of Humaans is its pricing structure. Some of its key functionality —like creating custom data fields to capture additional information, creating automated workflows, viewing org charts, and accessing the insights dashboard—are tucked away behind its Growth Plan. The kicker? You can't just check the price tag on their website—you'll need to get in touch with their sales team for a quote.

You'll have to go through sales to unlock Humaans's pricing on the Growth and Enterprise Plans.

Missing some Advanced Features

While Humaans nails the HRIS basics, our team did notice a lack of more advanced features seen in some competitor platforms. Here are a few examples:

  • Indicating open positions in an org chart
  • Allowing multiple approvers for a time-off requests

Nonetheless, our insider sources have suggested that Humaans is proactively developing these features, with the planned rollout expected as early as next year - so we're keeping our eyes peeled for the update!

Who is

Humaans

best for?

  • Small and medium-sized businesses (<1000 people), particularly those with distributed teams
  • Who want strong core HR functionality, and a central employee data hub that can integrate with 3rd party specialist tools (e.g. Applicant Tracking software, Benefits software, Performance Management software etc) to build their own personalized HR stack

Who is

Humaans

less good for?

  • Large teams (1000+ people)
  • And/or teams seeking an all-in-one consolidated HR platform with native functionality like  payroll, device management and performance & development

Closing Thoughts

So, is Humaans more than a pretty (inter)face? Absolutely. It's a flexible, intuitive HRIS that absolutely nails the basics. Perfect for SMBs and distributed teams, it might leave larger teams wanting more.

All in all, Humaans is definitely a serious contender in the HRIS space worth watching — we're certainly eager to see what updates it rolls out next.
