PS

Apollo and Hunter are products with different stages of maturity. Apollo, with its massive 260M contact database and enterprise-grade features, is ideal for larger US-focused businesses running sophisticated prospecting operations. Its advanced filtering, sequencing, and team collaboration features make it a comprehensive solution for high-volume sales teams.

Hunter, with its simpler interface and basic feature set, is better suited for small businesses with modest prospecting needs who prioritize ease of use over feature depth. While both tools offer email verification and basic prospecting capabilities, Apollo's broader feature set and data quality make it the clear choice for serious sales operations.

Advantages of Apollo

Apollo offers substantially better prospecting filters
Apollo provides granular filtering options including contact seniority, job title, and tenure - all missing from Hunter. This makes Apollo much more powerful for teams needing to target specific roles or levels within organizations. Hunter's limited filtering capabilities make it difficult to narrow down prospects effectively.
Apollo is far superior in contact database size and quality
Apollo's database of 260M contacts dwarfs Hunter's public web-scraped database. While Hunter relies solely on web scraping, Apollo's database includes verified phone numbers and additional data points, making it significantly more valuable for teams needing comprehensive prospect information. Hunter's limited data sourcing means less reliable and incomplete contact information.
Apollo has superior enterprise-grade features
Apollo offers robust territory management, team collaboration features, and advanced lead scoring capabilities that Hunter completely lacks. This makes Apollo much better suited for larger sales teams needing to coordinate prospecting efforts. Hunter's limited feature set makes it difficult to scale across larger teams.
Apollo's email sequencing is significantly more sophisticated
Apollo includes advanced features like A/B testing, multi-channel sequences, and time zone management that Hunter lacks. This makes Apollo much better suited for teams running complex outreach campaigns. Hunter's basic email sequencing misses crucial features like email warmup and A/B testing.

Advantages of Hunter

Hunter is significantly more streamlined for basic prospecting
We found Hunter's minimalist design and focused feature set makes it easier for SMBs to get started with basic prospecting compared to Apollo's more comprehensive but potentially overwhelming interface. This is particularly valuable for small teams that just need core contact finding capabilities without the complexity of enterprise features.

Apollo is best for

 • Businesses with high prospecting volume (1000-5000 leads per month)
 • Who need granular prospecting capabilities and verified email data with 91% accuracy
 • And/or who want integrated email sequencing with A/B testing and multi-channel outreach capabilities

Hunter is best for

 • Businesses with a low prospecting volume (50-200 leads per month)
 • Who need basic email verification and company research capabilities with minimal automation needs
 • And/or who want an intuitive interface with core CRM integrations but don't require advanced prospecting features

Apollo is less good for

 • Businesses with a low prospecting volume (50-200 leads per month)
 • Who need deep contact data coverage outside of the US market
 • And/or who just need basic contact verification without advanced engagement features

Hunter is less good for

 • Businesses with high prospecting volume (1000+ leads per month) who need comprehensive contact data beyond just email addresses
 • Who need advanced search capabilities with filters for contact seniority, job title, and company revenue range
 • And/or who need enterprise features like territory management, automated list building, and advanced email engagement tools

Stackfix Verdict
Functionality
9

Functionality

9/10

As a lead generation platform, Apollo is mature, rounded and feature rich. It covers the basics well - including a large contact database, strong email verification and granular prospecting and lead scoring tooling.

Additionally, its adjacent functionalities are also well executed. For example, its outbound sequencing feature is powerful and well integrated. Additionally, small AI touches are well dispersed across the platform - such as a native call transcription and summarisation bot for prospect meetings.

4

Functionality

4/10

Hunter lacks many core features you'd hope to see from a lead generation platform. When it comes to prospect search, the first hurdle you'll face is the relatively small size of its database - this is due to the fact that they only source emails from public websites and do not cross-reference with any additional data sources. Additionally, many common prospecting filters were missing such as company revenue, contact job title and contact tenure. Finally, adjacent features around email engagement were also light on features meaning you'd likely need to pay separately for a dedicated outbound engagement platform.

Ease of Use

Ease of Use

7/10

Apollo's web app is intuitive and easy to navigate. Additionally, its onboarding was simple and not overwhelming. It's core prospecting interfaces are familiar amongst competitors making it easy to pick up. It would take an average SMB employee less than 30 minutes to master its use.

Ease of Use

6/10

Hunter's relatively limited feature set means that its web app is intuitive and easy to navigate. Additionally, its onboarding was simple and not overwhelming. However, one drawback is that its contact prospecting interface is non-standard amongst competitors making it harder to pick up. Overall, it would take an average SMB employee a few hours to master its use.

Look and feel

7/10

Apollo's web app is relatively simple and easy to navigate. Additionally, when tested, we find it's search pages were generally fast to load.

However, given its feature richness some views were cramped and overflowing with information. For example, its company profile view is cluttered with valuable information like recent news flow hidden in unintuitive areas.

Look and feel

7/10

Hunter's web app is simple and easy to navigate. It's design aesthetic is minimalist and clean, something which is rare amongst tooling in the space. Additionally, when tested, we find it's search pages were generally fast to load.

Customisability
7

Customisability

7/10

There are a number of ways to customise your experience with Apollo, including basic channels such as creating custom lists, custom searches (which you can share with team mates) and defining criteria for lead scoring. There are also some deeper levels which you can customise such as providing the platform with context about your business and what you are selling - this information will then be used by their AI when drafting email sequences for example.

4

Customisability

4/10

While Hunter offers the ability to create custom lists, it lacks some customisability facets that larger businesses may find helpful. These include the ability to share custom searches with colleagues or to manage and assign territories to specific sales agents.

Ease of Setup
6

Ease of Setup

6/10

Unlike many of similar products of this scale, Apollo offers a simple, self-serve free trial for their platform. When tested, we found the initial setup to be simple (taking <10 mins). However, given then feature breadth that Apollo offers, it can take a lot of time to fully customize the experience. For example - most customers will still need to connect CRMs and customize Apollo's AI 'power-ups' to suit their needs.
