Applied and Join serve distinctly different hiring needs. Applied excels in structured, bias-free hiring with sophisticated workflow automation and comprehensive analytics, making it ideal for medium to large companies prioritizing DEI initiatives and data-driven hiring.

Join, on the other hand, stands out with its intuitive interface, extensive job board integrations, and superior candidate sourcing capabilities, making it better suited for small companies prioritizing ease of use and broad candidate reach.

Advantages of Applied

Applied offers more comprehensive reporting and analytics
Applied provides extensive self-serve analytics, particularly around diversity and inclusion metrics, while Join lacks any reporting functionality. Our reporting capabilities include hiring team performance comparisons, candidate feedback analysis, and detailed process metrics, which is essential for companies wanting to optimize their hiring process.
Applied is significantly better at reducing hiring bias
We found Applied's anti-bias features to be exceptional compared to Join. Applied offers anonymized screening, flags gender-specific language in job descriptions, and enforces structured scoring through mandatory mark schemes for each interview question. This is crucial for companies committed to fair hiring practices and reducing unconscious bias.
Applied has superior workflow automation
Applied's workflow automation significantly outperforms Join's basic automation. While Join only offers basic application confirmation and rejection emails, Applied enables automated interview scheduling, candidate feedback collection, and customizable email templates with dynamic fields. This is particularly valuable for companies with high-volume hiring needs.
Applied has better interview pipeline customization
Applied's interview pipeline setup offers significantly more sophistication than Join's basic pipeline management. Applied allows for detailed interview kits with review guides and multiple question types, while Join only offers basic stage management. This makes Applied better suited for companies with complex hiring processes.

Advantages of Join

Join has superior LinkedIn integration compared to Applied
Join's excellent Chrome Extension allows one-click candidate imports from LinkedIn, GitHub, and email, which is invaluable for teams doing high-volume sourcing. Applied lacks this functionality entirely, requiring manual candidate data entry.
Join is significantly more user-friendly than Applied
Join offers an exceptionally intuitive interface with a gentle learning curve, making it perfect for small teams without dedicated recruiters. Applied, while well-designed, requires more time to master due to its focus on structured, bias-free hiring processes.
Join provides better customer support than Applied
Join offers rapid support response times and excellent self-serve materials. While Applied provides good documentation, their email-only support with variable response times can be limiting for teams needing immediate assistance.
