PS

Attio and Twenty represent two different approaches to CRM, with Attio offering a more comprehensive, feature-rich platform while Twenty provides a basic, open-source alternative.

Attio is better suited for teams needing a full-featured CRM with strong data enrichment, automation, and reporting capabilities, particularly beneficial for startups and small teams requiring flexibility across various use cases like sales, fundraising, and recruiting. Twenty, on the other hand, is more appropriate for technical teams who prioritize complete control over their CRM's architecture and are willing to build custom functionality - though they'll need to accept significant limitations in out-of-the-box features and potentially integrate multiple third-party tools to match Attio's capabilities.

Advantages of Attio

Attio is significantly more powerful at data enrichment
We found Attio's one-click data enrichment to be exceptional, automatically populating contact and company profiles with detailed information including ARR, funding rounds, and even connection strength metrics. Twenty requires third-party integration for any data enrichment capabilities, making it less efficient for teams needing quick access to comprehensive contact information.
Attio has superior automation capabilities
Attio provides a sophisticated automation builder that allows for branched workflows, AI-powered actions, and integration with third-party tools. Twenty offers no automation capabilities, requiring manual handling of repetitive tasks that could otherwise be streamlined.
Attio offers superior pipeline management flexibility
While testing both platforms, we found Attio's pipeline management to be far more intuitive and flexible than Twenty's. Attio allows easy creation of multiple customized pipelines with built-in templates for various use cases like fundraising and employee onboarding. In contrast, Twenty limits users to a single pipeline under 'Opportunities' and requires complex technical configuration for additional pipelines.
Attio provides more comprehensive reporting capabilities
Attio offers advanced analytics functionality with multiple visualization options, customizable reports, and time comparison features. Twenty lacks any built-in reporting capabilities, making it difficult for teams to track and analyze their performance metrics without additional tools.

Advantages of Twenty

Twenty is significantly more customizable for technical teams
As an open-source platform, Twenty offers complete control over data structure and management, making it ideal for technical teams who want to build their CRM exactly how they want it. While Attio also offers customization, Twenty's open-source nature allows for unlimited modifications if you have the technical expertise.
Twenty has a gentler learning curve

While both platforms are easy to use, Twenty offers a even more streamlined, no-frills experience compared to Attio, which can feel overwhelming at times with its feature-rich platform. In particular, Attio's automation and reporting tools, while powerful, come with a steep learning curve. If you value simplicity over complex functionality, Twenty might be the better fit.

Attio is best for

 • Businesses with a low volume of customer interactions (10-50 messages/calls per day)
 • Who need highly customizable data structures and workflows, with magical data enrichment
 • And who want a delightful, modern UI with powerful but simple automation capabilities

Twenty is best for

 • Businesses with very low volume of customer interactions (<10 messages/calls per day)
 • Who need complete control over their CRM's data structure and have technical expertise
 • And who want to self-host their CRM for data privacy or compliance reasons

Attio is less good for

 • Businesses with a high volume of customer interactions (>50 messages/calls per day), who need advanced sales features such as lead scoring
 • Who need robust marketing automation capabilities without third-party tools
 • And who require pre-built sales reports

Twenty is less good for

 • Businesses with a moderate to high volume of customer interactions (>10 messages/calls per day)
 • Who need richer features like email sequencing and reporting
 • And/ or non-technical teams who need an out-of-the-box solution with standard CRM workflows

Functionality
7

Functionality

7/10

Attio offers simple, intuitive CRM functionality that ticks the boxes for most SMBs. Beyond the essentials like contact and pipeline management, it stands out with some standout features: a slick Chrome extension for effortless one-click contact addition from LinkedIn/X, impressive data enrichment, and AI-powered workflow automation. They’ve even recently added email sequencing and phone calling (via an integration) into the mix.

That said, there are a few missing pieces that sales teams might notice - like native lead capture from website forms.

3

Functionality

3/10

Twenty is more of a sophisticated customer database, rather than a CRM. It only offers basic features like contact storage, communication tracking, pipeline management, and task creation. However, it lacks email, call, analytics, and automation capabilities.

Ease of Use
8

Ease of Use

8/10

Attio offers one of the best-in-class user experience for its core functionality. Key workflows such as creating pipelines, adding contacts to Attio via its extension and moving contacts to lists are highly intuitive, and available via keyboard shortcuts.

However, we found Attio's automation and reporting modules less intuitive and complex, since they're more powerful and flexible than the average CRM.

8

Ease of Use

8/10

With minimal features and keyboard shortcuts, Twenty is generally intuitive and quick to navigate. However, some key workflows can be more complex for non-technical users. E.g. assigning a deal owner requires configuring "relation types" in the data model settings.

Its pages are also beautifully colour-coded and accompanied by emojis, making it a joy to use.

8

Look and feel

8/10

Inspired by Notion, Twenty feels modern and premium. Interactions are sleek, and pages load quickly (1-2 seconds).

Customisability
9

Customisability

9/10

Attio is a highly flexible CRM designed to meet the needs of any teams. It allows you to create custom data objects (on top of the standard "people" and "companies"), fully customisable pipelines, automation flows, highly customisable reports, and workspaces for any and all kinds of use cases (e.g. marketing, recruiting, project management).

9

Customisability

9/10

Being open-source, you can fully customize Twenty if you have the technical know-how. Even out-of-the-box, you can configure the data model, add custom objects, and create custom views. However, by default, it lacks some data storage types like checkboxes and formulas.

Ease of Setup
8

Ease of Setup

8/10

Attio offers a generous, self-serve free tier —up to 3 users and fully self-serve. Thanks to Attio's familiar spreadsheet-like layout, we found the initial setup to be extremely simple. It took less than 5 minutes to set up, and connecting our email was as simple as a few clicks, with all our contacts syncing automatically. That said, if you want to dive deeper and fully customize the platform, expect to spend 1-2 days exploring Attio’s incredibly flexible automation and reporting tools.
