Omnisend stands out for e-commerce businesses with its powerful automation and specialized features, while AWeber works better for small businesses with simpler email marketing needs.

For online stores, Omnisend delivers more sophisticated automation, better email design tools, and stronger contact management. It's ideal for growing businesses that need robust marketing capabilities.

AWeber, though less feature-rich, offers wider CRM connections and works well for small businesses mainly focused on basic email campaigns, especially those using Salesforce or Pipedrive. While AWeber connects with more third-party tools in some categories, Omnisend's stronger core features make it the better overall pick for most businesses, particularly in e-commerce.

Advantages of AWeber

Omnisend is significantly better at email campaign creation

Omnisend's email campaign builder stands out with comprehensive features and e-commerce focus. While testing, we found its drag-and-drop builder to be exceptionally robust, offering specialized features like product recommenders and product listings that AWeber lacks. This is particularly valuable for e-commerce businesses looking to streamline their email marketing workflows.

Omnisend offers vastly superior email templates

While AWeber lacks pre-designed email templates entirely, Omnisend provides a rich library of professional, modern templates that are regularly updated for seasonal events and holidays. This makes it much easier for businesses to quickly create polished marketing campaigns without starting from scratch.

Omnisend excels at contact management and segmentation

Omnisend's contact management system is significantly more sophisticated than AWeber's basic offering. It includes a comprehensive lifecycle stage map that identifies at-risk contacts and high-potential customers, while AWeber only offers basic manual segmentation. This difference is crucial for businesses wanting to optimize their customer targeting.

Omnisend provides superior automation capabilities

Omnisend's automation features are notably more advanced than AWeber's basic system. It offers goal-oriented workflows with highly customizable triggers and filtering options, while AWeber lacks advanced features like conditional branches and interaction-based automation. This makes Omnisend much more powerful for sophisticated marketing campaigns.

Stackfix Verdict
Functionality
4

Functionality

4/10

AWeber offers some, but not all, of the features that a business might need.

While you can create basic flows and email campaigns with the tool, there are practically no templates for flows, meaning they all have to be built from scratch.

On top of this, there are no Al-enhanced features, advanced segmentation, or surveys - making this a more meagrely kitted out marketing automation customers

8

Functionality

8/10

Omnisend offers all functionalities that most companies will need, even functionalities required by larger companies. In particular:

Email automations have advanced conditional functions

Segmentation offers a rich dataset for studying consumers, and

Advanced analytics options help businesses see everything at a glance.

Ease of Use
2

Ease of Use

2/10

AWeber was not particularly easy to pick up. Buttons and key calls to action were hidden in a hamburger menu, adding more clicks to get to basic sections of the program. However, given the simplicity of most of the features, this wasn't a huge issue.

9

Ease of Use

9/10

An average startup employee would have no issues picking up most of Omnisend's features. E-commerce and marketing automation beginners will appreciate the clean user experience and simplicity-led workflows.

Look and feel
4

Look and feel

4/10

Overall, AWeber's look and feel is outdated and a little tired. For those who don't mind the old-school look, AWeber could be a good fit. However, for those who want a more delightful interface and user experience, some other marketing platforms would be better options.

7

Look and feel

7/10

While the templates provided by Omnisend are excellent both in range and aesthetic, it loses a few points on its look and feel. We think some parts of the interface feel slightly outdated, and could do with a refresh!

Customisability
3

Customisability

3/10

AWeber's email automation and customisation system is one of the weaker ones we tested. While its competitors offer robust customisation options, including templates and conditional logic, AWeber loses out on this regard.

8

Customisability

8/10

Omnisend supports high levels of customisation for segmentation, analytics, as well as emails. A standout feature is also its drag-and-drop email builder, which offers more customisation options than other competitors we tested.

Ease of Setup
2

Ease of Setup

2/10

While AWeber does have a free trial, which allows you to perform basic setup and product testing, we still found that it was missing a large number of onboarding processes (e.g., tutorials). As such, basic setup takes 1+ hour to complete, and fully customising would take quite a few days.

9

Ease of Setup

9/10

Omnisend is breezily easy to set up. It offers a self-serve free trial, and it's easy to upgrade your plan without speaking to sales.

We also particularly appreciated the wealth of templates for automations, which autofills information from any integrated e-commerce platforms, such as Shopify.

Basic setup takes 10-20 minutes to complete, while fully customising (e.g., adding all of your integrated applications, and setting up custom segments) should take a day at most.

Customer Support
7

Customer Support

7/10

Live chat, email support, and help centre articles are available. Live chat isn't 24/7 however - but they serve US hours. Just something to be aware of if you're based in Europe/anywhere else.

9

Customer Support

9/10

Omnisend offers 24/7 customer support, through an in-app live chat, self-serve help centre, and through email as well.

Integratability
7

Integratability

7/10

Most integrations that businesses would need are offered by AWeber - including integrations for CRM, e-commece, lead generation, social media, and more.

8

Integratability

8/10

Omnisend has 130+ integrations, including ecommerce platforms, third-party apps, and workflow automation apps. Most apps that a business would need are covered in this list.

Ease of Migration
7

Ease of Migration

7/10

As with most marketing automation platforms, AWeber allows you to export your subscriber list. Anything else requires either an API or contacting customer support.

7

Ease of Migration

7/10

You can export .csv files of your contacts and segments directly in the app. Other exports must be done manually or by contacting customer service.
