PS

Bigin and Twenty serve distinctly different CRM needs. Bigin excels as an affordable, feature-rich CRM with strong phone integration, multiple pipeline management, and built-in reporting, making it ideal for small teams needing a ready-to-use solution.

Twenty on the other hand, is an open-source CRM. While more limited in out-of-the-box functionality, Twenty offers superior customization as and modern interface, making it better suited for technical teams who want to build a highly customized CRM solution. The choice between them largely depends on whether you need a fully-featured CRM (Bigin) or a highly customizable but basic platform (Twenty).

Advantages of Bigin

Bigin has built-in calling

We found Bigin's built-in phone system to be highly capable, offering browser-based calling and inbound call routing automation. Unlike Twenty, which lacks any calling functionality, Bigin enables sales teams to make and track calls directly from their browser, which is essential for high-volume sales operations.

Bigin provides much better reporting capabilities
Bigin includes comprehensive built-in reporting with various visualization options (heatmaps, funnels, donuts) for tracking both pipeline and activity metrics. Twenty lacks any native reporting functionality, making Bigin significantly better for teams needing data-driven insights.
Bigin has superior workflow automation
During testing, we found Bigin offers a standard but user-friendly workflow automation module for automating field updates, email sending, and task assignment. Twenty completely lacks automation capabilities, making Bigin much better suited for teams looking to streamline their processes.

Advantages of Twenty

Twenty is significantly more customizable for technical teams
As an open-source platform, Twenty offers complete control over data structure and management, making it far more flexible than Bigin for teams with technical expertise. While Bigin offers basic customization, Twenty allows developers to modify every aspect of the CRM to match specific business processes.
Twenty offers better customer support
Twenty provides more responsive customer support with live chat responses typically within an hour, while Bigin's support was found to be limited with non-functional chat support during testing. This difference is particularly important for teams requiring regular technical assistance.
Twenty has a more modern look and feel

With its Notion-inspired interface, Twenty provides a more modern and premium user experience compared to Bigin's plain interface. Pages load quickly (1-2 seconds) with sleek interactions, while Bigin's interface feels uninspiring.

Functionality
6

Functionality

6/10

Bigin offers essential features for small teams, like flexible contact and pipeline management, built-in phone, email sequencing, workflow automation, and analytics—all at an affordable price. However, advanced features like email marketing campaigns and data enrichment require add-ons or integrations.

3

Functionality

3/10

Twenty is more of a sophisticated customer database, rather than a CRM. It only offers basic features like contact storage, communication tracking, pipeline management, and task creation. However, it lacks email, call, analytics, and automation capabilities.

Ease of Use
7

Ease of Use

7/10

Navigating Bigin is straightforward and intuitive, and should take about an hour for most SMB users to get comfortable. Its "spreadsheet views" for contacts and pipelines are especially great for teams transitioning from spreadsheets. However, be aware of confusing terms like "touched records," and note that setting up email sequences can be cumbersome.

8

Ease of Use

With minimal features and keyboard shortcuts, Twenty is generally intuitive and quick to navigate. However, some key workflows can be more complex for non-technical users. E.g. assigning a deal owner requires configuring "relation types" in the data model settings.

9

Customisability

9/10

Being open-source, you can fully customize Twenty if you have the technical know-how. Even out-of-the-box, you can configure the data model, add custom objects, and create custom views. However, by default, it lacks some data storage types like checkboxes and formulas.

Ease of Setup
8

Ease of Setup

8/10

Bigin offers offers a simple, self-serve free trial for their platform. When tested, we found the initial setup to be straightforward (taking ~10 mins). Fully customising the platform can take 1-2 days given Bigin's breadth of features and integrations e.g. setting up call functionality, payment links, advanced automations.

4

Ease of Setup

4/10

Twenty offers a self-serve free trial. Thanks to Twenty's familiar spreadsheet-like layout, we found the initial setup to be extremely simple (taking <5 mins). You can connect your email with a few clicks, and all your contacts sync automatically. With that said, fully customising the platform can take a long time & technical effort, since Twenty's open-source nature means you can adapt Twenty to your exact business needs with code.

Customer Support
3

Customer Support

3/10

Support is available via phone and email. Although there's a "Chat with Us" button, it was non-functional during testing. Online resources are limited and not very helpful.

7

Customer Support

You can contact support via live chat within the platform, with responses typically within an hour. However, its documentation is basic and geared more towards technical teams.

Integratability
6

Integratability

6/10

Bigin integrates with key third party tools like Google and Outlook Calendar, Mailchimp, Shopify, and over 100 telephony vendors. It has a marketplace for third-party plugins like Slack, Twilio, and Eventbrite. While it integrates well with Zoho products, it lacks key integrations with major customer support vendors like Zendesk and Freshdesk. An API is available for custom integrations.

8

Integratability

Twenty CRM has no pre-built integrations; you'll need to use its API or Zapier. However, its API is flexible and powerful, enabling seamless integrations with most systems.
