Spellar and Bluedot serve distinctly different use cases in the AI notetaking space. Spellar excels as a tool for improving spoken English and communication skills, with outstanding real-time feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and speaking patterns. However, it falls short on core notetaking features.

Bluedot, while lacking Spellar's speaking analytics, provides a more comprehensive notetaking solution with strong search capabilities, customizable templates, and superior AI assistance. Choose Spellar if your primary goal is improving speaking performance, but opt for Bluedot if you need a full-featured meeting documentation tool.

Advantages of Bluedot

Bluedot is significantly better at generating meeting notes
While both tools generate notes quickly, Bluedot's AI-powered note generation is far more versatile and useful. We found it produces accurate notes with customizable templates and manual editing capabilities, which is crucial for teams needing to refine or add context to AI-generated content. In contrast, Spellar's notes cannot be edited manually and are limited to basic regeneration options.
Bluedot offers superior search capabilities
Bluedot provides comprehensive search functionality across meetings with both keyword search within meetings and global search across multiple meetings, making it easy to find specific information. Spellar completely lacks any search capabilities, making it difficult to locate past discussions or reference points.
Bluedot has better meeting organization features
Bluedot allows users to organize meetings into folders and set up automatic categorization based on keywords, which is essential for teams managing multiple meeting types. Spellar offers no organization capabilities, leaving meetings in chronological order only.
Bluedot provides better integration options
We find Bluedot offers more comprehensive integration options, including HubSpot and various other platforms, making it more suitable for teams using multiple tools in their workflow.

Advantages of Spellar

Spellar is significantly better at tracking speaking performance

We found Spellar provides exceptional real-time feedback on speaking performance, with detailed metrics on English fluency, accent, vocabulary, volume, pace, and filler words. While Bluedot offers basic talk ratio analysis, Spellar's comprehensive speaking analytics make it great for users focused on improving their communication skills.

Spellar offers mobile app functionality

Spellar's mobile app provides an excellent user experience with simple one-tap recording, particularly useful for recording in-person meetings. Bluedot lacks a mobile app entirely, limiting its flexibility for capturing meetings.

Stackfix Verdict
Functionality
6

Functionality

6/10

Offers all the key functionality of a good AI notetaker: recording audio and video, generating AI insights, interacting with an AI assistant, creating automated action items + emails, sharing meeting transcripts and notes etc. - all done with a good level of accuracy.

2

Functionality

2/10

Spellar offers little beyond pronunciation feedback and lacks core functionality such as search, organization, note editing, and custom templates. This being said, its AI chat co-pilot and meeting summaries are strong features.

Ease of Use
7

Ease of Use

7/10

Getting started on Google Meet with the Chrome extension is quick and straightforward—simply click the blue dot and select "Start Recording" to begin. For other platforms, recordings must be started manually, as the tool doesn’t automatically detect new meetings. The web app itself is very intuitive and easy to use.

4

Ease of Use

4/10

Spellar’s limited functionality makes it straightforward to set up, transcribe meetings, and get clear feedback on your pronunciation. The feedback looks good and clearly highlights both your mistakes and the correct alternatives. However, the lack of features like meeting search, organization tools, or note customization makes it difficult to go beyond the basics.

Look and feel
7

Look and feel

7/10

The design is clean, modern, intuitive, and without unnecessary features. Meeting views are well-organised: the page is split in half, with the video player and notes on one side, and the transcript, insights, and AI chat on the other.

3

Look and feel

3/10

The interface is clean and simple, but the absence of tags, colors, and a keyword search makes organization difficult and finding things challenging. Additionally, the mandatory dark mode feels overly dark, making it hard to see. On the positive side, the feature that highlights mispronounced words in the transcript is a nice touch. If your primary goal is to get feedback on pronunciation, the app serves that purpose fairly well.

Customisability
6

Customisability

6/10

Includes a range of predefined meeting note templates, such as sales notes, key takeaways, and screening interviews. Alternatively, you can create custom templates with your own sections. Trackers can be set up to automatically group meetings containing specific keywords.

1

Customisability

1/10

Beyond choosing the length of the AI summary, customisation options are virtually non-existent. You cannot manually edit the transcript or notes, create custom templates, or organise meetings into folders, leaving you restricted to a chronological order.

Ease of Setup
7

Ease of Setup

7/10

Self-serve, no sales calls. Few note templates with guided input boxes for creation. Basic setup takes 10-15 minutes. Automations like auto-sorting are easy to set up, however, there isn't a rich library of predefined Zapier templates. Requires Chrome extension.

7

Ease of Setup

7/10

Self-serve, no sales calls. No editable note templates or customization. Basic setup takes 10-15 minutes. No advanced workflows supported, no Zapier templates or native builder. Requires desktop app installation.

Customer Support
5

Customer Support

5/10

You can send messages via chat, typical response time is within 24 hours.

4

Customer Support

4/10

There’s no help centre with self-help articles or an in-app support chat. Support is available via a Slack channel, where questions typically receive a response within a few hours.

Integratability
6

Integratability

6/10

Some major integrations are included, such as Slack, HubSpot, and Notion.

3

Integratability

3/10

Integrates with some common apps like Slack, Notion, and Jira. The biggest weakness is the lack of a Zapier integration, which most AI notetakers have.

Ease of Migration
7

Ease of Migration

7/10

Audio and video recordings can be shared via a link, with the option to start playback from a specific timestamp. Creating and sharing clips is simple: just highlight text in the transcript and select "Clip".

6

Ease of Migration

6/10

The summary notes can be quickly shared to integrated apps like Google Docs, Craft, Notion, and Confluence. There are also options to copy the notes to the clipboard, copy all as plain text, copy only the summary, or copy the summary as plain text. Additionally, the audio recording can be downloaded as an .mp4 file.
