In our comprehensive testing, Grain emerges as the superior AI notetaker for teams prioritizing accuracy and polish in their meeting documentation. Its exceptional transcription quality, powerful search capabilities, and refined user interface make it ideal for professional teams handling frequent meetings.

Notta, while more limited in core functionality, offers advantages for bilingual teams (especially Japanese-speaking) and those requiring mobile recording capabilities. Grain is best suited for desktop-focused teams needing reliable, high-quality meeting documentation, while Notta better serves mobile-first teams with bilingual needs and broader integration requirements.

Advantages of Grain

Grain is significantly better at AI-powered meeting assistance
We found Grain's AI assistant delivers consistently clear answers that can be toggled between paragraphs and bullet points, and easily added to meeting notes with a single click. In contrast, Notta's AI assistant struggles with reliability, particularly when analyzing multiple meetings.
Grain offers superior transcription accuracy and control
During testing, we found Grain's transcription to be highly accurate and quick, even for lengthy meetings, with excellent speaker editing features. Notta, while adequate for English and Japanese, struggles with other languages and offers less control over speaker management.
Grain provides more powerful search and organization capabilities
Grain's search functionality stands out with powerful filters and the ability to organize content through playlists, highlights, and comments. While Notta offers basic search and folder organization, it lacks the depth and flexibility of Grain's system.
Grain delivers a more polished and intuitive user experience
We found Grain's interface to be exceptionally well-designed, with careful attention to detail and thoughtful feature placement. Notta's interface, while modern, suffers from visual bugs and less intuitive organization.

Advantages of Notta

Notta offers more comprehensive mobile support than Grain
Unlike Grain, Notta provides mobile apps for both iOS and Android, enabling in-person meeting recording and transcription. This makes it more versatile for teams that need to capture meetings on the go or in various settings.
Notta is significantly better at bilingual transcription
While Grain excels at English transcription, Notta offers superior bilingual transcription capabilities, particularly for Japanese content. This is especially valuable for international teams working across English and Japanese languages, though we found translation accuracy varies for other languages.

Functionality

8/10

Grain is well-rounded, offering all the functionality you'd expect from an AI notetaker. It simplifies managing your team, upcoming meetings, summary templates, playback, finding and organizing meeting information, and sharing with participants and team members. Every feature is carefully chosen, with no unnecessary functionality added.

The only notable missing feature is insights spanning multiple meetings.

6

Functionality

6/10

It has most of the common AI notetaker functionalities for recording meetings and generating customisable AI notes, along with bilingual transcription and translation. However, during testing, we found it lacks reliable insights across multiple meetings, as the AI assistant struggled with basic questions when asked to summarise several meetings.

Ease of Use
9

Ease of Use

9/10

Setting up with Grain is extremely easy, and its core functionality is intuitive. Users can choose how deeply they want to engage with the platform. If they stick to the core features, they won’t be overwhelmed by additional functionality, as advanced features are typically well-hidden in settings and can be accessed only when needed.

6

Ease of Use

6/10

Setting up and transcribing is easy, with buttons on the home page for instant recording, file uploads, online meetings, and screen recording. Within meetings, there are quick-send options for sharing notes to integrations. Overall, the general functionalities are straightforward and easy to use.

Look and feel
9

Look and feel

9/10

Grain is exceptionally polished, offering rich functionality without overwhelming the interface with unnecessary detail. Finding what you need is easy thanks to its powerful search. Within meetings, you can view the recording and notes in three templates, each designed for:

Reviewing calls and coaching

Navigating and searching calls

Creating clips

There’s a good balance between quick-access features and more advanced settings, with only essential elements displayed on the page. Even the AI assistant is tucked behind a button that opens a pop-up when pressed, keeping the interface streamlined overall.

6

Look and feel

6/10

The interface is modern and tidy, with meetings displayed in a compact view on the dashboard, providing a clear overview. There are a few visual bugs, such as components overflowing from their container and red underlines for correctly spelled words in the transcript. The AI assistant is hidden behind an icon and pops out when needed, while the sidebar hides when not in use. The app makes good use of space, displaying notes in a large area to minimise scrolling.

Customisability
9

Customisability

9/10

Grain is highly customizable at every stage, including:

Fully editable transcripts, both in text and speakers.

Notes that can be regenerated with a different template, and the ability to create custom templates. AI assistant answers can be added to notes and templates with a single click.

Comments can be left on notes, and highlights can be created, with both displayed separately.

Clips can be merged into stories, and meetings can be grouped into playlists.

Tags can be added to meetings, and custom trackers set up to track specific topics—by both single words and multi-word phrases.

Custom words can be added for improved recognition in transcripts.

5

Customisability

5/10

You can use your own templates for summaries, but there is limited customisation for who the meetings should be automatically sent to, and for the meeting bot, particularly in terms of which meetings it should auto-join.

6

Ease of Setup

6/10

Self-serve for basic tiers; enterprise setup requires booking demos. Comes with nearly 30 note templates, customizable but without guided input boxes. Basic setup takes 10-15 minutes. Advanced workflows require Zapier but lack a rich library of Zapier templates, taking 1-2 hours.
