Hiring tool and Join are best used in different ways. Hiring tool excels as an entry-level ATS for small businesses making their first hires, offering superior ease of use and basic team collaboration features. Its strength lies in its simplicity and core hiring workflow functionality.

Join, on the other hand, is better suited for growing companies with regular hiring needs, offering robust job board integration, sophisticated candidate sourcing tools, and comprehensive evaluation capabilities. While both platforms share similar ease-of-use ratings, they differ significantly in their feature depth and target use cases.

Advantages of Hiring tool

Hiring tool is more cost effective for more job listings.

Hiring tool is more cost effective should a firm have 4 or 5 active job listings. The Start-up plan allows for up to 5 active job listings for $50/ month. For 4 or 5 job listings, JOIN would cost $60 or $75/ month.

Hiring tool is significantly easier to get started with
We found Hiring tool's interface to be exceptionally intuitive and streamlined, making it perfect for small businesses making their first hires. While Join also has a good interface, Hiring tool's minimalist approach and focused feature set means new users can master it without any training. This is particularly valuable for companies without dedicated HR staff.
Hiring tool offers better team collaboration features
Unlike Join, Hiring tool allows hiring managers to add team members to specific job openings and customize approval flows. This granular control over permissions and workflows is especially useful for organizations with multiple departments or hiring managers who need to maintain privacy between different hiring processes.
Hiring tool provides better candidate communication options
Hiring tool offers both email and text messaging capabilities for candidate communication, while Join only supports email. This multi-channel communication approach is particularly valuable for roles where quick responses are crucial or when dealing with candidates who prefer text communication.

Advantages of Join

Join has vastly superior job board integration
Join offers integration with 250+ job boards (10+ for free), while Hiring tool has zero job board integrations. This makes Join significantly more efficient for companies needing to reach a wider candidate pool, as Hiring tool requires manual posting to each job board.
Join's candidate sourcing is more sophisticated
Join provides an excellent Chrome Extension for adding candidates from LinkedIn with a single click, plus access to over 1000 pre-built assessments. Hiring tool lacks both these features, making it more time-consuming to source and evaluate candidates.

Hiring tool is best for

  • Businesses with very low hiring volume (1 job position at a time)
  • Who need an extremely intuitive interface that requires minimal training
  • And/or who want seamless email integration for candidate communication.

Join is best for

  • Businesses with a low hiring volume (1-2 open positions at a time)
  • Who need a highly intuitive ATS with multi-job board posting and built-in candidate assessments
  • And/or who want efficient candidate sourcing through LinkedIn with one-click Chrome extension imports

Hiring tool is less good for

  • Businesses with moderate hiring volume (3-5 job positions at a time)
  • Who need sophisticated workflow automation like automatic email sequences and candidate tagging
  • And/or who need integrations with job boards, HRIS systems, or assessment tools.

Join is less good for

  • Businesses with a moderate to high hiring volumes (>2 open positions at a time)
  • Who need advanced workflow automation and reporting capabilities
  • And/or who need deep HRIS integrations and customizable approval flows

Stackfix Verdict
Functionality
4

Functionality

4/10

<p>Hiring tool offers little ATS functionality. It lacks basic integration features with external job boards (e.g. LinkedIn), E-sign contract software or external assessment software (e.g. Test Gorilla). Hiring tool's ATS functions are also minimal. It lacks CV parsing, analytics/reporting and email automation functionality.</p><p>This being said, the email integration (via Gmail and Microsoft Outlook) allows businesses to send emails to candidates efficiently, without leaving the Hiring tool website.</p><p>Hiring tool's AI candidate scoring function also provides some time-saving benefits to employers with too many application forms to review manually. However, this is not the kind of employer that the rest of the Hiring tool product is aimed at.</p>
6

Functionality

6/10

<p>Join offers some of the functionality most SMBs will need for hiring. This includes multi-posting to 10+ job boards, native online assessments, pre-screening questions, and interview kits. It also has an excellent Chrome Extension for adding candidates from LinkedIn. However, it does lack some core functionality such as interview scheduling, CV parsing, and reporting functionality.&nbsp;</p>
Ease of Use
10

Ease of Use

10/10

<p>Its simplicity and intuitive architecture removes the need for a steep learning curve and instead creates a seamless UX. <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent;">An average SMB employee would require more than 30 minutes and no guidance to master the product.</span></p>
10

Ease of Use

10/10

<p>Due to its lightweight nature, Join has the gentlest learning curve out of the ATS's we've come across. It is highly intuitive and easy to use.</p><p>The only minor quibble we have is the ability to drag and drop stages in the interview pipeline.&nbsp;</p>
Look and feel
7

Look and feel

7/10

<p>Hiring tool has a modern and sleek feel. Fast loading times produce a seamless UX. All drag and drop features work well and sync quickly across users.</p><p>At times, however, Hiring tool's UI can look plain, simplistic and unfinished.</p>
9

Look and feel

9/10

<p>JOIN has a modern, attractive and uncluttered interface with fast load times which makes it a joy to use.</p>
Customisability
6

Customisability

6/10

<p>Hiring tool lacks the more granular customisations available with its heavyweight ATS counterparts. For example, you can't add interview templates, delay emails to candidates or add a video introduction to job application forms. However, most standard customisations are available. For example, you can add team members to help hire for a specific role and you can customise application forms (e.g. with screening questions) and interview pipelines.</p>
5

Customisability

5/10

<p>Join offers less customisation than more heavyweight ATS's. For example, you can't delay emails to candidates, add team members to specific roles to help with hiring, or add more than one question type to interview kits.</p><p>However, it provides standard levels of customisability for job application forms and interview pipelines.&nbsp;</p>
Ease of Setup
10

Ease of Setup

10/10

<p>Hiring tool offers a free plan that doesn't require you to talk to sales. Purchasing also doesn't require you to talk to sales. Hiring tool's simplicity and intuitive user interface allows users to complete basic setup &lt;10mins. Fully customizing key features is also very simple and takes approximately 1 business day.</p>

Customer Support
10

Customer Support

10/10

<p>Hiring Tool's founder mans live chat support himself, guaranteeing almost instant and helpful responses. The founder is also very hands-on, and happy to go above and beyond to work together to find a solution to any problem, including quickly developing custom features for teams. </p><p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Hiring tool's self-service materials are not extensive, but given the intuitive nature of the UI, more self-service materials would not be necessary.</span></p>
8

Customer Support

8/10

<p>Join provides good self-serve materials, and although support is only available via email, they responded to our queries within minutes.</p>
Integratability
1

Integratability

1/10

<p>Hiring tool has no integration aside from email functionality (via Gmail and Microsoft Outlook) and background checks (via Zinc Work).</p><p>The lack of job board integration makes it difficult to advertise positions and costs employers time - should they wish to manually upload adverts to job boards.</p>
3

Integratability

3/10

<p>Join only has pre-built integrations with 2 of the key HRISs (Personio and Factorial) and has no integrations with any e-sign or background check tools.&nbsp; However, it does have an API for custom integrations.</p>
Ease of Migration
2

Ease of Migration
