PS

Hunter and LeadIQ are targeted at different customer types. Hunter excels as a straightforward, user-friendly option for SMBs with basic prospecting needs, offering a clean interface and essential features like email sequencing at a likely lower price point.

LeadIQ, while having a more complex interface, better serves enterprise teams with its superior contact verification, territory management, and integration capabilities with major sales engagement platforms. The choice between them largely depends on team size and complexity of sales operations - smaller teams will appreciate Hunter's simplicity, while larger enterprises will benefit from LeadIQ's more sophisticated features.

Advantages of Hunter

Hunter is significantly more intuitive to use
We find Hunter's minimalist and clean design makes it much easier to navigate compared to LeadIQ's dated and cluttered interface. While both platforms have relatively limited feature sets, Hunter's web app loads faster and provides a more straightforward user experience that new users can master in a few hours.
Hunter offers better API access
Hunter provides a well-documented API for custom integration development, which is particularly valuable for teams wanting to build custom workflows or directly query the contact database. LeadIQ lacks this capability entirely, limiting options for technical teams.
Hunter provides native email sequencing capabilities
Unlike LeadIQ which has no email sequencing functionality, Hunter offers built-in email sequencing with deliverability analytics and time-zone aware sending. While the feature set is basic, it provides essential functionality for teams who don't want to pay for a separate engagement platform.

Advantages of LeadIQ

LeadIQ is significantly better at contact verification
We found LeadIQ's three-tier verification system for both emails and phone numbers to be more comprehensive. LeadIQ cross-references multiple data sources to provide more reliable verification statuses for both emails and phone numbers, whereas Hunter relies on web scraping for email verification.
LeadIQ offers some enterprise friendly features

Unlike Hunter which lacks territory management features entirely, LeadIQ provides enterprise-grade territory management capabilities allowing sales teams to assign specific regions to individual sales agents. This is particularly valuable for larger organizations with geographically distributed sales teams.

LeadIQ has superior AI capabilities
While Hunter lacks any AI functionality, LeadIQ provides AI-powered email composition and personalization features that integrate with major outbound platforms. This is particularly valuable for teams looking to scale their personalized outreach efforts efficiently.

Hunter is best for

 • Businesses with a low prospecting volume (50-200 leads per month)
 • Who need basic email verification and company research capabilities with minimal automation needs
 • And/or who want an intuitive interface with core CRM integrations but don't require advanced prospecting features

LeadIQ is best for

 • Businesses with a moderate prospecting volume (200-1000 leads per month)
 • Who need verified contact data accuracy and phone verification but can tolerate a smaller overall database
 • And/or who want AI email personalization capabilities while using separate engagement platforms like Outreach or Salesloft

Hunter is less good for

 • Businesses with high prospecting volume (1000+ leads per month) who need comprehensive contact data beyond just email addresses
 • Who need advanced search capabilities with filters for contact seniority, job title, and company revenue range
 • And/or who need enterprise features like territory management, automated list building, and advanced email engagement tools

LeadIQ is less good for

 • Businesses with high prospecting volume (1000+ leads per month) who need comprehensive data coverage and consistent data quality
 • Who need advanced automation capabilities and workflow management for prospecting at scale
 • And/or who need integrated email sequencing and engagement tracking functionality

Functionality
4

Functionality

4/10

Hunter lacks many core features you'd hope to see from a lead generation platform. When it comes to prospect search, the first hurdle you'll face is the relatively small size of its database - this is due to the fact that they only source emails from public websites and do not cross-reference with any additional data sources. Additionally, many common prospecting filters were missing such as company revenue, contact job title and contact tenure. Finally, adjacent features around email engagement were also light on features meaning you'd likely need to pay separately for a dedicated outbound engagement platform.

When it comes to prospect search, the first hurdle you'll face is the relatively small size of its database compared to some competitors. Additionally, adjacent features around email engagement are omitted entirely meaning that you will need to pay for dedicated outbound tools separately. However, LeadIQ does provide an email/message personalization AI feature which integrates nicely with many outbound platforms.

Ease of Use
6

Ease of Use

6/10

Hunter's relatively limited feature set means that its web app is intuitive and easy to navigate. Additionally, its onboarding was simple and not overwhelming. However, one drawback is that its contact prospecting interface is non-standard amongst competitors making it harder to pick up. Overall, it would take an average SMB employee a few hours to master its use.

2

Look and feel

2/10

LeadIQ's UI feels dated. When tested, we find many pages to be overwhelming and confusingly laid out which made navigation difficult at times despite the overall lack of functionality. Additionally, search pages were often slow to load (occasionally taking >5 seconds to load).

Customisability
4

Customisability

4/10

While Hunter offers the ability to create custom lists, it lacks some customisability facets that larger businesses may find helpful. These include the ability to share custom searches with colleagues or to manage and assign territories to specific sales agents.

6

Customisability

6/10

LeadIQ offers a handful of avenues for customisation that would be help to both SMBs and larger enterprises. For example you're able to map additional custom fields when adding contacts to external CRMs/engagement platforms and you're able to manage/assign territories for individual sales agents.

Ease of Setup
9

Ease of Setup

9/10

Hunter offers a simple, self-serve free trial for their platform. When tested, we found the initial setup to be simple (taking <5 mins). Additionally, connecting email addresses to their outbound feature was relatively trivial too - with a one click connect feature for popular providers like Google and Outlook.

Additionally, the lack of native email sequencing functionality means it doesn't take long to get the most out of the platform either. The only areas which do take some time to configure are buried in settings - such as the ability to manage/assign territories for individual sales agents.
