PS

Hunter and RocketReach serve distinctly different needs in the lead generation market. Hunter excels as a simple, user-friendly tool best suited for small businesses or individual users who need basic prospecting capabilities and email sequencing, with strong email client integrations.

RocketReach, on the other hand, is the superior choice for teams requiring comprehensive prospect data, advanced filtering capabilities, and robust data verification features. While Hunter offers better ease of use and basic email automation, RocketReach's vastly superior database and filtering capabilities make it the better choice for serious prospecting teams who can invest in learning its more complex interface.

Advantages of Hunter

Hunter offers better email sequencing capabilities than RocketReach
While both platforms have limitations in their email capabilities, Hunter provides more robust email sequencing features including deliverability analytics and time-zone based sending. RocketReach only allows one-time immediate emails, making Hunter better suited for businesses needing basic automated outreach capabilities.
Hunter is significantly easier to use than RocketReach
We found Hunter's minimalist interface and streamlined functionality makes it exceptionally easy to learn and use, taking under an hour to master compared to RocketReach's more complex interface. This is particularly valuable for small businesses or individual users who need to get up and running quickly without extensive training.

Advantages of RocketReach

RocketReach is significantly better at contact search and filtering
RocketReach's contact database is substantially larger than Hunter's and provides more granular filtering options. While Hunter only sources data from public web scraping, RocketReach cross-references multiple data sources, making it particularly valuable for teams needing comprehensive prospect data.
RocketReach offers superior data verification visualization

RocketReach provides more comprehensive data verification than Hunter, including timestamps for when data was last refreshed and user feedback on data validity. Hunter only offers confidence indicators without cross-referencing capabilities.

RocketReach has better AI-powered features
Unlike Hunter which lacks AI capabilities, RocketReach offers AI email composition and automated prospect list building through its 'Autopilot' feature. This is particularly valuable for teams looking to scale their outreach efforts efficiently.
RocketReach is notably easier to use than Hunter
We find RocketReach's interface to be more intuitive than Hunter's, requiring less training time. While Hunter takes several hours to master, RocketReach can be learned in under 15 minutes, making it ideal for teams needing quick deployment.

Functionality
4

Functionality

4/10

Hunter lacks many core features you'd hope to see from a lead generation platform. When it comes to prospect search, the first hurdle you'll face is the relatively small size of its database - this is due to the fact that they only source emails from public websites and do not cross-reference with any additional data sources. Additionally, many common prospecting filters were missing such as company revenue, contact job title and contact tenure. Finally, adjacent features around email engagement were also light on features meaning you'd likely need to pay separately for a dedicated outbound engagement platform.

5

Functionality

5/10

RocketReach is a no-frills lead generation tool. It's prospecting interface provides some of the most granular filtering options out of any product on the market. Additionally, the size of its contact database ranks as one of the largest amongst competitors.

However, RocketReach lacks many common outbound features that you might expect to see. Though it does provide the ability to reach out to leads one email at a time or automate reach out to multiple leads through its AI - you are not able to create email sequences meaning that most businesses will want to use a dedicated engagement platform alongside RocketReach.

Ease of Use

Ease of Use

6/10

Hunter's relatively limited feature set means that its web app is intuitive and easy to navigate. Additionally, its onboarding was simple and not overwhelming. However, one drawback is that its contact prospecting interface is non-standard amongst competitors making it harder to pick up. Overall, it would take an average SMB employee a few hours to master its use.

5

Look and feel

5/10

RocketReach's web app is simple and easy to navigate. However we did find the design aesthetic to feel dated and and handful of views to be overflowing and cramped with excessive information. Though most pages were fast to load, some searches were slow to render (often >5s).

Customisability
4

4/10

While Hunter offers the ability to create custom lists, it lacks some customisability facets that larger businesses may find helpful. Customer Support

3/10

You can contact RocketReach's customer support via a live chat widget inside their web app. At first, you'll be greeted by an AI bot which, when tested, we found to be relatively unhelpful and eager to hand you off to irrelevant help centre articles. However, it is fairly easy (<2 mins) to reach a real support agent if within their operating hours. Though once we were in touch, we found agents to lack knowledge about complex questions and often leaning on providing irrelevant help centre links for answers.
