PS

Lemlist and Uplead serve distinctly different needs in the lead generation space. Lemlist excels as an outbound sequencing platform with basic prospecting capabilities, making it ideal for SMBs focused primarily on email outreach who need an all-in-one solution.

Uplead, conversely, is a specialized lead generation tool with superior company research and contact search capabilities, better suited for teams with established CRM/engagement setups who prioritize data quality over outreach features. Neither platform offers cutting-edge AI features or advanced automation, but they differ significantly in their core strengths - Lemlist in engagement, Uplead in data quality.

Advantages of Lemlist

Lemlist is significantly better at email sequencing than Uplead
We found Lemlist's email sequencing capabilities to be well-executed and feature-rich, with the ability to engage across multiple channels including LinkedIn and phone. While Uplead completely lacks any email sequencing functionality, Lemlist's multichannel approach is particularly valuable for sales teams needing to coordinate outreach across different touchpoints.

Advantages of Uplead

Uplead offers superior company profile insights
When testing company profiles, we found Uplead provides significantly richer company information than Lemlist, including detailed fundraising history, technology stack data, and competitor analysis. While Lemlist's company profiles are essentially non-existent, Uplead's comprehensive profiles are valuable for teams doing account-based prospecting.
Uplead has more reliable list building capabilities
Uplead's list building functionality, while basic, is more dependable than Lemlist's buggy beta interface. When testing, we found Lemlist's list interface would often freeze or get stuck loading for over 5 minutes, while Uplead consistently performed core list management tasks without issues.

Lemlist is best for

 • Businesses with a low prospecting volume (50-200 leads per month)
 • Who need robust multi-channel outbound sequencing capabilities
 • And/or who only need based basic prospecting functionality integrated with their outbound sequencing tool

Uplead is best for

 • Businesses with a moderate prospecting volume (200-1000 leads per month)
 • Who need granular contact and company filtering capabilities across a reasonably large database of 160M+ leads
 • And/or who want basic, no-frills lead generation features to complement existing CRM and engagement tools

Lemlist is less good for

 • Businesses with high prospecting volume (1000+ leads per month) who need comprehensive data enrichment and reliable lead generation
 • Who need advanced account-based prospecting capabilities and detailed company profiles
 • And/or who need advanced list building features like territory management and lead scoring

Uplead is less good for

 • Businesses with high prospecting volume (1000+ leads per month) who need to manage and assign territories to sales teams
 • Who need advanced automation capabilities like AI-powered email personalization and workflow automation
 • And/or who need integrated email engagement sequencing and tracking functionality

Functionality
6

Functionality

6/10

Lemlist is not your typical lead generation tool. Instead, it's core functionality is outbound sequencing and as part of that, there's a native prospecting tool built in. Though Lemlist's contact database is large (450M contacts) and the filters it provides are granular - we find it to be inaccurate and cumbersome to use. In many case, it failed to provide emails for our usual test searches. That being said, Lemlist's outbound functionality is well executed and feature rich.

Functionality

3/10

Uplead is best viewed as a simple, no-frills lead generation tool as opposed to a rounded lead generation platform. It's prospect and company searching functionality is rich and offers powerful filtering abilities wrapped in a familiar interface.

However, adjacent features around email engagement are omitted entirely meaning that you will need to pay for dedicated outbound tools separately. Additionally, you'll find no novel AI automation or email personalisation features that are quickly becoming normalised amongst competitors.

Ease of Use
3

Ease of Use

3/10

We find Lemlist's web app to be well laid out and intuitive to navigate. However, certain interfaces, such as the prospecting interface, are cumbersome to use. Additionally, list building interface was particularly buggy and confusing to use - often displaying error messages with no clear action for the user to resolve.

Ease of Use

5/10

Uplead's no-frills feature set means that its web app is relatively easy to navigate. Its prospecting interface is familiar when compared to competitors, however, some interfaces are clunky and cramped and often require a second look to find the data point/button you're hunting for. It would take an average SMB employee a few hours to master its use.

Look and feel
4

Look and feel

4/10

Lemlist's design aesthetic is modern, clean and easy on the eyes. However, we noticed some elements of the UI were often positioned poorly or cut off by other components - for example, the inability to close toast messages was particularly annoying on many occasions.

Look and feel

2/10

Uplead's design and UI feels dated. When tested, we find many pages to be overwhelming and confusingly laid out which made navigation difficult at times. Additionally, search pages were often slow to load (occasionally taking >5 seconds to load).

Customisability
5

Customisability

5/10

While Lemlist offers the ability to create custom lists, it lacks some customisability facets that larger businesses may find helpful. For example the ability to manage and assign territories to specific sales agents or score leads.

8/10

Lemlist offers a simple, self-serve free trial for their platform. When tested, we found the initial setup to be simple (taking <10 mins).
Lemlist's primary means for customer support is via a live chat widget within their web app. It was quick and simple to contact a real support agent (often <5 mins) and when tested, we find them to be helpful and about to troubleshoot technical questions often in the first response.
