Mailchimp and Moosend serve distinct market segments within the marketing automation space. Mailchimp is the superior choice for growing businesses needing a user-friendly, multi-channel marketing platform with robust integrations and AI capabilities. Its intuitive interface and comprehensive feature set make it ideal for teams wanting to scale their marketing efforts across channels.

Moosend, while less intuitive, offers more specialized e-commerce features at a lower price point, making it better suited for budget-conscious e-commerce businesses focusing primarily on email marketing with specific targeting needs.

Advantages of Mailchimp

Mailchimp is significantly more intuitive and user-friendly
While both platforms offer extensive customization options, Mailchimp's interface is far more intuitive and organized compared to Moosend's cluttered layout. We found that Mailchimp guides users with helpful prompts and AI assistance, making it easier for beginners to get started. In contrast, Moosend's interface can feel overwhelming with scattered settings and unexplained features.
Mailchimp offers superior multi-channel marketing capabilities
Mailchimp provides comprehensive multi-channel marketing features that Moosend lacks, including SMS marketing, social media management, and Google Ads integration. This makes Mailchimp better suited for businesses wanting to coordinate marketing across multiple channels, particularly important for companies with diverse customer touchpoints.
Mailchimp provides superior AI-powered features
Mailchimp offers more advanced AI capabilities than Moosend, including AI-optimized sending times and AI-powered design assistance. These features help marketers optimize their campaigns more effectively, particularly beneficial for teams wanting to maximize engagement without manual testing.
Mailchimp has superior integration capabilities
Mailchimp's integration ecosystem is substantially more robust than Moosend's, particularly for e-commerce. While Moosend lacks critical integrations with platforms like Shopify and Stripe, Mailchimp offers native connections with these and over 350 other platforms, making it especially valuable for businesses using multiple tools.

Advantages of Moosend

Moosend is significantly more cost-effective for e-commerce marketing
We found that Moosend offers comparable core email marketing functionality to Mailchimp at a lower price point, making it particularly attractive for e-commerce businesses. While Mailchimp charges premium rates for advanced features, Moosend includes rich e-commerce-focused templates and automation workflows in its standard pricing.
Moosend provides superior customer support response times
We experienced consistently faster support response times with Moosend compared to Mailchimp, with connections to human agents within minutes during peak hours. While Mailchimp offers good support, Moosend's more immediate access to live support is particularly valuable for teams requiring quick assistance.
Moosend offers more extensive customization options for non-technical users
During our testing, we found that Moosend provides more granular customization options in its email and automation builders compared to Mailchimp, particularly beneficial for marketers who want deep customization without coding. While Mailchimp focuses on simplicity, Moosend allows for more detailed control over email elements and workflow configurations.

Mailchimp is best for

  • Businesses with moderate to high email volume (5k-50k emails per month)
  • Who need sophisticated email automation with AI assistance and need visual campaign builders for non-technical users
  • And/or who want omnichannel marketing capabilities and need to integrate email, SMS, and social media in single workflows

Moosend is best for

  • Businesses with low email volume (1k-5k emails per month)
  • Who need highly customizable e-commerce email marketing and need advanced automation workflows with granular targeting
  • And/or who want comprehensive e-commerce email features and need landing pages and signup forms without coding

Mailchimp is less good for

  • Businesses with very high email volume (50k+ emails per month)
  • Who need advanced marketing automation features like custom objects, native CRM capabilities, and complex ABM tools
  • And/or who want enterprise-grade features like advanced landing page A/B testing and direct Salesforce integration

Moosend is less good for

  • Businesses with high email volume (10k-50k emails per month) who need omnichannel marketing capabilities
  • Who need an intuitive, easy-to-use platform with clear guidance on advanced features
  • And/or who want modern e-commerce integrations like Shopify, Stripe, or Webflow

Stackfix Verdict
Functionality
7

Functionality

7/10

<p>Mailchimp offers a wide range of marketing tools that cover most needs of SMBs. This includes email and SMS marketing, social media management, multi-channel campaigns, a website builder, and segmentation and customization options. The platform also has some nifty AI features to enhance marketing efforts and provides decent analytics. However, at times, certain features feel slightly bare bones. For instance, there aren't many email templates, and for a full-suite email marketing platform, we would have liked to see more automation templates as well.</p>
8

Functionality

8/10

<p>Moosend offers almost all the email marketing functionality that e-commerce SMBs need. This includes building complex automated email workflows, landing pages, sign-up forms, and more. Its email builder, while not the most intuitive, is one of the most feature-rich we've come across—you can add countdown timers and showcase your products directly in your emails. It also boasts one of the richest email template libraries we've seen. However, Moosend doesn't offer marketing functionality for other channels like SMS, social media, or ads.</p>
Ease of Use
7

Ease of Use

7/10

<p>Mailchimp is user-friendly, especially for beginners. It provides personalized onboarding and guides you through using the platform. There are plenty of tutorials and helpful prompts, like the "Help me design my email" button that opens an AI assistant, and suggestions like "Help me get started with contact tags." The platform offers many templates, and processes like importing contacts are easy to follow.</p><p>However, because of its many features and customization options—like testing up to eight versions of an email or using advanced dynamic content—there can still be a learning curve.</p>
4

Ease of Use

4/10

<p>We find that Moosend is so packed with features and customization options that it can be overwhelming and confusing. Advanced features often lack explanation or guidance. For example, in the email editor, there are multiple panels where you can edit the same thing, and elements like customizing a "slot" or "anchoring" text come without any explanation. Filters are also often ungrouped, so you have to scroll through a long list to locate the right one. It could take an average SMB employee at least a week and some assistance to feel comfortable using the platform.</p>
Look and feel
8

Look and feel

8/10

<p>Mailchimp's interface is colorful, simple, and clean, with tasteful graphics. It is visually appealing and easy to navigate. Pages load quickly, usually within 1 second, providing a smooth user experience.</p>
2

Look and feel

2/10

<p>We find Moosend's interface to be quite dated, with most screens cluttered by excessive information and customization options. The design isn't responsive, so when you resize your browser window, elements often overlap or text spills out of containers, making it frustrating to use. However, page load times are acceptable (1-2 seconds).</p>
Customisability
7

Customisability

7/10

<p>Mailchimp allows you to customize most client-facing elements, helping you create attractive marketing materials with its powerful editor and personalization features. You can build complex marketing automation workflows with conditional logic, branching, and triggers. Audience segmentation is flexible, including the ability to use custom events with code. The platform offers decent analytics and lets you create custom reports. However, it lacks some advanced customization options, like creating custom data objects.</p>
8

Customisability

8/10

<p>Moosend is about as customizable as it gets for a platform designed for non-technical marketing teams (i.e. without code) You can build complex automated email workflows and customize most client-facing assets. For example, you can branch email workflows to target different percentages of your audience, and you can almost completely customize landing pages and forms using a drag-and-drop builder. However, you can't segment users based on custom events that require code or use custom data objects.</p>
Ease of Setup
9

Ease of Setup

9/10

<p>There is plenty of guidance from Mailchimp to get your team up and running in no time (less than 15 minutes for basic setup).</p><p><br></p><p>However, given that Mailchimp also offers a wealth of customization options, advanced setup can still take up to a few weeks.</p>
4

Ease of Setup

4/10

<p>We found that getting up and running on Moosend took longer than with other Marketing Automation platforms. This is largely down to two things: advanced features being extremely hard to set up, and the layout of the platform itself being unintuitive.</p><p><br></p><p>During our testing, basic setup took more than 45 minutes, and advanced setup took up to a few days.</p>
Customer Support
9

Customer Support

9/10

<p>Mailchimp provides excellent customer support, with live support available in the app and quick response times (within minutes when tested). There's AI support throughout the platform, such as when creating an email campaign. The help center is high-quality, offering comprehensive resources to assist users.</p>
8

Customer Support

8/10

<p>You can contact Moosend's support team via live chat on the platform. Even during peak hours, we got connected to a human agent within minutes, and agents were always friendly and helpful. However, Moosend's help centre is only of average depth/ quality.</p>
Integratability
10

Integratability

10/10

<p>Mailchimp integrates well with other tools, offering over 350 pre-built integrations with third-party applications like CRMs, e-commerce platforms, social media, and event management tools. It also provides an API for custom integrations.</p>
5

Integratability

5/10

<p>Despite having a huge library of pre-built integrations, we found that Moosend is lacking a few key integrations, especially for ecommerce. For example, it doesn't integrate with Shopify, the leading ecommerce platform, not Webflow, the leading web builder. It also doesn't integrate with Stripe, which allows you to directly collect payments from your emails/ newsletter.</p>
Ease of Migration
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p>Mailchimp lets you easily export all your account-related data through the platform. For other information, you can access it via their API.&nbsp;</p>
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p>You can easily export key data via self-serve into Excel/ CSV format e.g. email list, email list by status, segments etc. It also has a reporting module where you can export custom data about campaign performance, email list changes etc.</p>
