Mailchimp is perfect for SMBs seeking easy, AI-powered marketing, while Salesforce Marketing Editions is built for enterprise-level, data-driven marketing. Mailchimp excels as a user-friendly, AI-powered platform ideal for SMBs and marketing teams needing quick, professional results without technical complexity. Its superior email builder, extensive integration options, and modern AI features make it perfect for growing businesses.

Conversely, Salesforce Marketing Editions shines as a sophisticated enterprise solution, particularly valuable for larger organizations already using Salesforce CRM. Its advanced customization, detailed segmentation, and robust CRM capabilities make it better suited for complex, data-driven marketing operations in larger enterprises.

Advantages of Mailchimp

Mailchimp is significantly more user-friendly for email design
We found Mailchimp's drag-and-drop email builder to be vastly superior to Salesforce Marketing Cloud's clunky interface. While testing, we appreciated Mailchimp's rich template library, AI-powered design suggestions, and intuitive customization options. This makes it particularly valuable for marketing teams who need to create professional-looking emails quickly without technical expertise.
Mailchimp offers superior third-party integration capabilities
We find Mailchimp's integratability to be a major strength, with seamless connectivity to over 350 third-party applications. This makes it particularly valuable for businesses using multiple marketing tools and platforms, whereas Salesforce Marketing Cloud users often struggle with limited integration options.
Mailchimp provides superior AI-powered features
Unlike Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Mailchimp offers comprehensive AI capabilities including message drafting, design assistance, and sending time optimization. This makes it especially valuable for teams looking to leverage AI for marketing optimization and efficiency. Salesforce Marketing Cloud lacks these modern AI capabilities entirely.
Mailchimp delivers better social media marketing capabilities
Mailchimp includes native social media post scheduling functionality, while Salesforce Marketing Cloud lacks this feature entirely. This makes Mailchimp more suitable for businesses needing integrated social media marketing capabilities alongside their email marketing efforts.

Advantages of Salesforce Marketing Editions

Salesforce Marketing Editions is significantly better at customization
Salesforce Marketing Editions offers superior customization capabilities compared to Mailchimp. We found its ability to create detailed customer segments and conditional branches particularly impressive, making it ideal for enterprises needing granular control over their marketing automation.
Salesforce Marketing Editions offers better visual dashboards
We find Salesforce Marketing Editions's visual dashboards to be more comprehensive, offering detailed data visualization, including engagement history, campaign activities, and most active users tracking. In comparison, Mailchimp's reporting is standard, whereas Salesforce's dashboards are more detailed and business-focused.
Salesforce Marketing Editions provides superior native CRM functionality
Unlike Mailchimp which lacks native CRM capabilities, Salesforce Marketing Editions comes with built-in CRM functionality, making it particularly powerful for businesses that need deep customer relationship management integration with their marketing efforts.
Salesforce Marketing Editions has more robust segmentation capabilities
The platform's standout feature is its detailed segmentation capabilities, allowing tracking of engagement, channels, and consumer health over time. While Mailchimp offers basic segmentation, Salesforce's CRM integration enables much deeper customer insights, particularly valuable for e-commerce businesses.

Mailchimp is best for

  • Businesses with moderate to high email volume (5k-50k emails per month)
  • Who need sophisticated email automation with AI assistance and need visual campaign builders for non-technical users
  • And/or who want omnichannel marketing capabilities and need to integrate email, SMS, and social media in single workflows

Salesforce Marketing Editions is best for

  • Businesses with high email volume (10k-50k emails per month) who are already using Salesforce CRM
  • Who need advanced customer segmentation capabilities and detailed engagement tracking across multiple channels
  • And/or who want robust automation workflows with conditional branching based on external events

Mailchimp is less good for

  • Businesses with very high email volume (50k+ emails per month)
  • Who need advanced marketing automation features like custom objects, native CRM capabilities, and complex ABM tools
  • And/or who want enterprise-grade features like advanced landing page A/B testing and direct Salesforce integration

Salesforce Marketing Editions is less good for

  • Businesses with low email volume (1k-5k emails per month)
  • Who need user-friendly email builders and modern, ready-to-use templates
  • And/or who need basic marketing features without complex CRM integration

Stackfix Verdict
Functionality
7

Functionality

7/10

<p>Mailchimp offers a wide range of marketing tools that cover most needs of SMBs. This includes email and SMS marketing, social media management, multi-channel campaigns, a website builder, and segmentation and customization options. The platform also has some nifty AI features to enhance marketing efforts and provides decent analytics. However, at times, certain features feel slightly bare bones. For instance, there aren't many email templates, and for a full-suite email marketing platform, we would have liked to see more automation templates as well.</p>
8

Functionality

8/10

<p>Salesforce Marketing Editions is a powerful, highly customizable marketing tool with a strong focus on CRM and customer segmentation. It’s a heavyweight platform, packed with features, but leans more toward data-driven marketing than sleek design.</p><p><br></p><p>You get the essentials – marketing automation, email marketing, and deep CRM integration – but there are some notable gaps:</p><ul><li>No modern, visually polished email templates</li><li>No built-in landing page builder</li><li>No native SMS sending (SMS requires an integration)</li></ul><p><br></p><ul><li>If you need a marketing tool that’s tightly connected to Salesforce and built for segmentation, it delivers. But if design and ease of use matter most, you might find it lacking.</li></ul>
Ease of Use
7

Ease of Use

7/10

<p>Mailchimp is user-friendly, especially for beginners. It provides personalized onboarding and guides you through using the platform. There are plenty of tutorials and helpful prompts, like the "Help me design my email" button that opens an AI assistant, and suggestions like "Help me get started with contact tags." The platform offers many templates, and processes like importing contacts are easy to follow.</p><p>However, because of its many features and customization options—like testing up to eight versions of an email or using advanced dynamic content—there can still be a learning curve.</p>
3

Ease of Use

3/10

<p>Salesforce Marketing Editions is not particularly beginner friendly - we'd recommend it to those with previous Salesforce or CRM experience, simply because its marketing automation functions also rely heavily on the same interface.</p>
Look and feel
8

Look and feel

8/10

<p>Mailchimp's interface is colorful, simple, and clean, with tasteful graphics. It is visually appealing and easy to navigate. Pages load quickly, usually within 1 second, providing a smooth user experience.</p>
6

Look and feel

6/10

<p>While relatively straightforward to navigate, the interface does not deliver delight. This is mostly due to the fact that many buttons and fields feel crowded - unless you know your way around Salesforce software already, this may be hard to wrap your head around.</p>
Customisability
7

Customisability

7/10

<p>Mailchimp allows you to customize most client-facing elements, helping you create attractive marketing materials with its powerful editor and personalization features. You can build complex marketing automation workflows with conditional logic, branching, and triggers. Audience segmentation is flexible, including the ability to use custom events with code. The platform offers decent analytics and lets you create custom reports. However, it lacks some advanced customization options, like creating custom data objects.</p>
9

Customisability

9/10

<p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Salesforce Marketing Editions offers some of the best customisation options we've seen. Specifically, it offers: </span></p><ul><li><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Analytics customisation, allowing you to see the key details for key customer segments </span></li><li><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Email customisation, based on customer behaviour and traits </span></li><li><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Flow customisation, allowing you to build complex and conditional flows. </span></li></ul>
Ease of Setup
9

Ease of Setup

9/10

<p>There is plenty of guidance from Mailchimp to get your team up and running in no time (less than 15 minutes for basic setup).</p><p><br></p><p>However, given that Mailchimp also offers a wealth of customization options, advanced setup can still take up to a few weeks.</p>
3

Ease of Setup

3/10

<p>Salesforce Marketing Editions offers a self-serve free trial, but setup takes time – expect at least 45 minutes just to get started.</p><p>Even basic tasks, like setting up automations or email campaigns, take more steps than most other marketing platforms, since there are more fields to fill out. Full customization and implementation can stretch to weeks or even months. And, just like with Salesforce CRM, you may need dedicated consultants or technical experts to handle data migration.</p>
Customer Support
9

Customer Support

9/10

<p>Mailchimp provides excellent customer support, with live support available in the app and quick response times (within minutes when tested). There's AI support throughout the platform, such as when creating an email campaign. The help center is high-quality, offering comprehensive resources to assist users.</p>
8

Customer Support

8/10

<p>Depending on your subscription level, different customer support channels are available.</p><p>Phone support is offered to most customers, and live chat is offered to limited segments of customers. Online support (i.e., via email) is always available.</p>
Integratability
10

Integratability

10/10

<p>Mailchimp integrates well with other tools, offering over 350 pre-built integrations with third-party applications like CRMs, e-commerce platforms, social media, and event management tools. It also provides an API for custom integrations.</p>
5

Integratability

5/10

<p>Salesforce Marketing Editions doesn’t quite live up to Salesforce’s reputation for integrations. While the broader platform connects well with other tools, Marketing Editions has more limitations. If you rely on multiple apps, it’s worth double-checking whether Salesforce Marketing Editions supports the integrations you need before committing.</p>
Ease of Migration
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p>Mailchimp lets you easily export all your account-related data through the platform. For other information, you can access it via their API.&nbsp;</p>
8

Ease of Migration

8/10

<p>Salesforce Marketing Editions offers solid export options – you can easily export contacts as CSV files, as you’d expect.</p><p>If you ever need to handle data portability requests for compliance reasons, Salesforce Marketing Editions provides a clear process for exporting all customer-related information, making it easier to stay on top of data protection requirements.</p>
