Otter.ai and Metaview are built for different use cases in the AI notetaking space.

Otter.ai is a solid general-purpose option — great for teams who need quick, reliable meeting transcripts, flexible exports, and strong chat integration. It’s built for breadth and works well across a variety of use cases.

Metaview, on the other hand, is purpose-built for recruiting. It offers deeper customization, smarter filtering, and more powerful analytics — making it especially valuable for interview teams who need structured insights and candidate comparisons.

Advantages of Metaview

Metaview is significantly better at customizable templates
We found Metaview's template system to be exceptionally powerful, allowing detailed control over how summaries are generated with specific rules for keywords and various formatting options. In contrast, Otter.ai offers limited customization options and doesn't allow users to edit meeting summaries.
Metaview has superior search and filtering capabilities
Metaview's advanced filtering system in 'Views' allows comprehensive searching across conversational topics, event details, and custom parameters, while Otter.ai only offers basic keyword search with limited filtering options. This makes it much easier for teams to find specific information across multiple meetings.
Metaview provides more accurate transcription
During our testing, Metaview demonstrated notably better transcription accuracy compared to Otter.ai, which struggled with corporate jargon and accented speech, achieving only 70% accuracy. This is crucial for teams needing reliable meeting records.
Metaview offers superior engagement tracking
While Otter.ai lacks any engagement metrics, Metaview excels with comprehensive performance tracking, including speaking time and communication patterns. This is particularly valuable for teams wanting to improve their meeting effectiveness and communication skills.

Advantages of Otter.ai

Otter.ai offers superior export capabilities
Otter.ai provides more flexible export options than Metaview, allowing users to download transcripts in various formats including timestamps and speaker names. This is particularly valuable for teams that need to maintain detailed meeting records or integrate with other tools.
Otter.ai is significantly better at AI chat capabilities
We found Otter.ai's AI chat feature to be surprisingly powerful, providing comprehensive and nuanced answers with clear source citations for each point. While Metaview also offers AI chat, it struggles with combining information across multiple meetings and provides less detailed responses.

Functionality

8/10

It offers strong core AI notetaker functionality, capturing audio/video and providing insights through custom templates or its AI assistant. It also includes advanced features tailored for candidate interviews, such as side-by-side comparisons and detailed reporting on engagement and meeting stats.

6

Functionality

6/10

Mostly only offers core AI notetaking functionality. Can record, transcribe meetings, has a mobile app, can upload your own audio/ video files for transcript. But can't record without a meeting bot, lacks analytics, lacks more customisability for meeting notes & other advanced AI functionality. AI chat functionality is surprisingly strong and accurate.

Ease of Use

8/10

It’s easy to set up and use. The custom templates are simple to configure, and the summary can be regenerated with a single click. The assistant offers good controls to customise the output format. Interview comparisons are easy to view by selecting two interviews, and the "Views" are straightforward to set up for generating interview reports.

7

Ease of Use

7/10

Key workflows such as recording meetings, inviting the bot to meetings is generally intuitive and straightforward. You can see action items assigned to you at a glance. There are some unmarked elements / icons over the web app which will take a bit of getting used to. Some flows, such as organising meeting notes, aren't as user-friendly as they can be.

Look and feel
8

Look and feel

8/10

The user interface is polished and well-designed, avoiding feature overload on any page. Notes and transcripts can be viewed side by side, making efficient use of space to display notes, video, and transcript together. The comparisons page is tidy, presenting side-by-side comparisons clearly by keeping the topic on one line with the two comparisons displayed below. The "Views" page is well-organised, with filters at the top, results displayed compactly, and charts neatly arranged on the side.

6

Look and feel

6/10

Modern, clean and visually acceptable. Functional design, nothing spectacular. Page loads are acceptable (2-3 seconds).

9/10

The templates offer detailed control over how summaries are generated, allowing custom setups for identified topics. Both the summaries and AI assistant responses are highly customisable. 4

Customisability

4/10

You can freely edit transcripts and most of the meeting notes. Annoyingly, you're unable to edit meeting summary - there's only an option to regenerate it. You're also unable to customise sections of meeting notes or bring your custom templates.
