Mixpanel and PostHog are both leading product analytics tools, that share many similarities - but they have different strengths.

PostHog offers slightly more functionality - notably heatmaps, better automatic event capture functionality and more integrations. It’s also more customizable, especially with its self-hosted, open-source deployment. But with that extra power comes added complexity – the UI isn’t as intuitive as Mixpanel’s.

Mixpanel, on the other hand, has more limited functionality and overall customizability, but that’s what makes it easier to use. It also offers better dashboard customization than PostHog.

Go with PostHog if you want the most comprehensive feature set. Pick Mixpanel if ease of use matters more.

Functionality	10 Functionality 10/10 <p>PostHog's functionality range is the best on the market. It excels in richness in nearly every category from automatic event capture to heatmaps to session replay recordings.</p>	8 Functionality 8/10 <p>Mixpanel excels in event-based analytics with exceptional depth for behavioral analysis, conversion funnels, and user segmentation. While it lacks some features that competitors offer (notably heatmaps), its core analytics capabilities are more refined and accessible to non-technical users.</p>
Ease of Use	5 Ease of Use 5/10 <p>PostHog’s web app can feel overwhelming due to the sheer number of controls and limited in-product guidance (e.g. tooltips or hints). Less experienced users often end up a bit lost. For example, on the Web Analytics tab, there are ~50 controls - most of which are undefined, and some (e.g. 'Paths' and 'Correlation Analysis') which even confused even fairly experienced users.</p><p>That said, inside specific areas - like session replays - controls and charts are much easier to use.</p>	7 Ease of Use 7/10 <p>Mixpanel offers relatively intuitive navigation and visualization tools accessible to both technical and non-technical team members. Given the sheer breadth of functionality, they do a good job of presenting information clearly, though we would have preferred a touch more simplicity. Additionally, it was one of the first products to pioneer automatic event capture, meaning it's pretty simple to get value from the product after installing a simple script.
