Key findings

Gong is pitched at mature sales organizations that enjoy strong product-market fit, and are operating (or wish to move upmarket to) Enterprise level customers. To succeed with Gong, you will need a data-driven culture among the executive team and cascading through sales management. Managers will need to understand the importance of sharing best-practice behaviours between the team (including onboarding new members) and they will want to coach their teams through deal execution. An expert revenue operations team is vital to success with Gong, and a dedicated enablement/training function would be a massive plus.

Cons

Extremely Complex Setup Process

Setting up is inherently complex and will requiresignificant involvement from RevOps experts and Gong's professional services team. Despite claims of a 2-hour setup time, achieving optimal configuration for a serious sales team may take weeks.

Integration Limitations
We found the platform's integration capabilities to be somewhat restricted, particularly regarding CRM options. While Salesforce and HubSpot are well-covered, teams using alternative CRMs may find themselves frustrated by limited integration options.

Gong is best for

  • Businesses with mature enterprise sales teams and expert RevOps seeking data-driven performance improvement
  • Who need to scale best practices across teams through systematic coaching
  • And/or who need data-driven forecasting and early risk detection in complex deals

Gong is less good for

  • Businesses without a data-driven sales culture or expert RevOps team will struggle to maximize value
  • Businesses with limited technical resources, as setup requires significant RevOps expertise and professional services support
  • Who need broad CRM integration options beyond Salesforce and Hubspot
  • And/or who need top-of-funnel prospecting and outreach capabilities
